How to remove a pillar?

I am getting my gauges tommorrow and would like to install the 3 quage a pillar, and gauges not hooked up for now, i am getting a pro to do the install of the probes etc., but could I just install the pillar, guages, and run the wires down the pillar, and just tie them out of the way for now, until I get the probes installed, I thought I could save some dough by installing the pillar and gauges by myself, is it pretty easy? how do you get the stock pillar off? Step by step instructions would help, and do I need any special tools?

Thanks for any help!

RYAN

pop the plastic caps out of each end of the handle and remove the 10mm? bolts from behind them. then it is just pulling the pillar out of the clips.

When I run the wires, is there a hole somewhere in the engine compartment to run them into, or do I have to drill a hole in the firewall?

what did you use to cut the hole in the firewall, and where did you cut it from in the engine compartment? Is it real easy to get to?

if you have a manual, there is a rubber blanking plug in the firewall that is about 2" [guessing???] that is where in an automatic the shift cable goes through... if you have an auto, apparently there is a plastic blanking plate where the clutch master cylinder would be mounted... either will work depending on what you got.. but either way, i don't think you will need to cut steel.
