how much life do boxes take from cummins
From everything I read I don't think it will shorten the lifespan of the motor unless your abusing it. For a daily driver under normal conditions I don't believe that it will have any long term effects. These motor are so overbuilt which is why they last 300K plus. My buddy is a Master Diesel mechanic. He works on trucks with over 500K still running strong. Most of those trucks are daily haulers which I imagine a bit tougher on the motor then a box installed and not overly abused. Just my two cents.
I think the 2 things that could hurt things with a chip would I be, over fuel pressure and over rpm's. other than that. You should be fine with a chip or box. For a daily driver I acually think there are some settings that are "better" for the motor than running them stock. like having the timing retarded when stock. When I had a bd power pup on my 04.5. It made the engine sound and run so much better. It just pured like a kittin.
