How much boost is too much on stock studs?
That makes me feel better. It seems like those who are replying to my post with personal experience have been fine with 50 psi or more. I'm going to leave it since only pushing 1200 degrees on EGT is nothing, so I'll take my chances.
Just a few seconds here and there when occasionally rolling into 5th or 6th gear okay you think?? Like I mentioned, it never runs over 45-46 psi even in 6th on a full pass starting in lower gears.
I thought the Silver 62 was running a 71mm turbine in a 14cm housing. With a 62mm compressor that doesn't sound like the drive pressure would be out of whack at 50PSI or below. What am I missing. I would like to know because I'm running a HTT 62/71/13ss that's basically the same set to 47 PSI.
I ran my silver bullet at 55 psi daily on stock studs for about 6 months with no problems. After I blew out a freeze plug with the beta program I decided I was probably pushing it and I ordered studs. But if you have the studs already, why risk it? Getting them in now is fairly easy compared to having to replace the head gasket and clean up a big oil and coolant mess.
I pushed my stocker over 50lbs a few times and mine lived but I agree with CQ, I would back off a little. The Silver 62 acutally has a 74mm wheel wich will help but what is 3-5lbs of boost really gona gain you? I keep mine down to 47-48 and have had zero issues so far. If you don want to do studs just cut the boost down a little, I doubt you will feel much of a diff going from 51-52 to 45-48. JMO
