I think that 45 is the safe limit... I see 40-43, and have had no problems so far...

No Problem. Welcome to the DTR by the way. Please fill out your sig so everyone knows what you have. Go mid way up the top left side of the page and click on user CP, then click on edit signature. Year of truck, model, mods, and so on.

It kind of depends on the turbo you're running. The stocker at 45psi will be pushing hotter air and creating high drive pressures. That's a bad thing for head gaskets.

A larger turbo will push the same or more boost with cooler air and less drive pressure. I think the general concensus is that 50psi is the safe max limit with a larger turbo.

You can see I have an A3k. It spikes to about 50psi and holds about 45. While I never blew the head gasket, I just had studs installed and they said that the factory bolts were loose and that it looked like I had a compression leak between number 4 and 5. Now, I have also run a little water/meth in the thing and when I was playing with a Predator in the mix I got some serious timing rattle a couple times, so who really know which one of those three things was creating too much cylinder pressure. Everyone says 50-55psi, but at this point I'd personally keep to a max of 45.

Can you get that kind of boost out of a stock turbo? If so, what do I need to do? I had to pinch off the hose to the wastegate just to get 28lbs.

That's the most you'll get out of that one.

and just to clarify 50psi is with the stock headbolts? With studs and stock gasket you are good to 80psi?

Thanks,
Ken

If you're concern is relative to the headgasket only and NOT the turbo then I and many others have run for several years 60 - 70psi w/ NO problem. Now if you're talking boost and you have an oem turbo then like others have said,.. 45psi is the safe max.

I wouldn't think you'd want the stock head gasket. Would probably want to have it o-ringed.

How can you get that much out of the stocker. I noticed a big differance from 20lbs to 28lbs. If I could see the mid 30s or so, That would be great.
