I made mine from the stock tube and it sounds great. I just seperated the top ring housing from the tube, removed the baffling. I then purchased a high quality glue and reattached the ring to the tube. Cost bout five bucks and it made a huge diffrence plus the dealer thinks it still stock at first glance. I can post pictures if anyone is interested..

 

...bad thing is that its NOT stock regardless of how it looks to the dealer. I didn't want to damage my stock tube, just in case I did want to put it back in. All I have to do is pull that alum. tube out and stick the plastic stock one back in.

My truck is out of warranty so I couldn't really care less about whether my dealer likes it or not. In fact, my dealer hasn't even seen my truck since the day I took it off the lot.

If I was still under warranty though....I wouldn't try to hide my mods. Just doesn't seem very honest to me....but that's been discussed here way too many times.

 

I can still replace the baffles in about ten minuted total and you wouldn't ba able to tell ....

 

I really can't figure out why nobody uses the Airaid MIT. It's cheap, fits well, has a nice venturi shape too. I've sold a few of them after installing it on my truck, and everyone has been thrilled with it. Not as inexpensive as PVC, but looks better and no hassles with cutting or worrying about the clamps slipping or leaking air (since the MIT has molded catches so to speak).

 

...looks to me like the MIT is about $50 BEFORE shipping. We're talking about $21 AFTER shipping for the alum. intake tube. Much less than 1/2 the price is a good reason to not go with the MIT, IMO.

Yet folks spend much more on torque tubes. And aluminum gets warm (and it's near the turbo too), which in turn makes the intake air hotter as well. Part of the reason you see so many new vehicles with composite intakes........

Obviously it's not a tough thing to make, and I'm certainly not saying not to make something or buy something less expensive if you want.

I'm only saying that it's a part that helps accelerate airflow, it's not exactly expensive, it fits and keeps the air cooler than a metal pipe too. MHO
