Homemade 6" Air intake, AKA the "whistler", tech write-up
If i did a 45 off the turbo and 4" pipe to another 45 a short pipe to connect the filter to the 45. would that work or should i put 90's on the bends? which do you think would work better?
I am not sure if it would work??? seems there is not much room for a 45* at the turbo???
I know some have tried a 4" to 5.5" 90*off the turbo and it would not fit..
when you set up a new intake you have to take a gamble and see if it fit's..I was lucky and everything fit perfect.
sorry I could not help more
Whistler Stage II Teaser Pics
Well I have a few teaser pics of the whistler stage II set-up...
now keep in mind this is just my prototype version and I have not made any of the lines smooth or clean....I also used some really thin aluminium because I wasted to other good pieces, so the next one you guys see will be A WAY CLEANED UP VERSION OF WHAT IS SHOWN.
let me know what you think

here is a shot of the filter way down in the fender well... nice and cold down here

What about above the hood?
What about taking the pipe from the turbo and aiming it straight up and cut a hole in the hood with a K&N air filter stick out above it? Then have some kind of hood scoop over the front of it in case of rain, mud or snow? Right now I took the idea here of getting rod of the air box breather and I just have the turbo goto the hose to a 6" K&N air filter, so it whistles like an F18 fighter plane!
But thought of it sticking above the hood, but would I need a hoodscoop? to cover the weather? So it would cover the front of it like a half moon and have the back of the filter above the hood open for air flow and the sound should be louder too! Right? Thanks for any help guys, if I do this I will take pics of it for everyone to see.

the hood scoop would be kicked to one side of the hood then and would look weird IMHO....If I had a SRT10 hood I might try to make that work but not with my stock hood.
try it...make sure you post pics if you do.

This is as close as you can get to having an airfilter poke through the hood w/o having to cut it:

This old photo doesn't show the cowl induction hat that draws air only from the high-pressure cowl plenum.
It's very efficient, and a little loud - balances the 4040L and dump right behind the cab.

Wow that must be loud!!!! Takes up alot of room eh, but you cannot get anymore wideopen that that breather!!! I thought I would get alot of air cutting through the hood and then putting a workable hoodscoop on it!!
What I did for now is just add a 5.5" diameter pipe that is 4 inches long comes straight out from the turbo and put a 5.5" K&N cone filter straight onto it with no curves at all until I decide what I do about the hoodscoop, that is finding the right one, or fabbing one up out of marglass. Still want to stick it straight up through the roof though, the whole K&N, would look mean, but would have to cover it on bad weather which wouldn't look so good eh! The air flow and Whistle would be KILLER!!!!
Thanks for the help, guys.
Looking forward to a busy weekend - Ordered my ****** Whistler parts, a muffler delete and a Jake brake.
I'm never gonna get my race car built if I keep messing with the truck!
