Well I Herculined the rear chrome bumper a week ago and came out pretty good, so I did the front chrome bumper yesterday/today. It came out good also. Just about done with my cosmetics to change the look to more black with minimal dollars. The chrome nerf bars will be next to Herculine, then I will be done.

Thanks guys. Trying to change the looks the inexpensive route. Don't want a new truck. Just want this one to evolve a little for now. Lights, front and rear, grille all ebay specials. Now if I just have the energy left to tackle the nerf bars I will about done with the cosmetics. No money to address the wheels at this time. Might look for a cheap stock take offs to powder coat.

It still looks good when clean.

I used the roller on the rear first coat. It went on too heavy. I did the rear second coat with a two inch brush. Pretty much just dabbing not painting.

Did both coats on the front with a brush. Takes a little longer, but was able to get a smaller, tighter pattern/coverage and texture that way. It looks pretty good, only time will tell if I got the chrome scruffed up enough to bond long term.

The back seems to be good after a week plus, but like I said only time will tell.

 

I did mine not too long ago also. It held up real good so far.

 

What did you guys do to prep the bumper before you painted it? And does that liner fade in the sun after time? It's looks great and I would like to do it for sure..

 

I stripped everything off the bumpers, then used my Dewalt grinder to scruff up the entire surface to cover. Chrome is not easy to prep, took close to two hours on each bumper to do. I do not know how it will hold up over time. Not sure if the prep was enough for the chrome, only time will tell. I do expect some fading over time. I will use my Aerospace 303 on when it looks like it needs it.

Here is a picture of the front ready to coat, can't really tell how ruff it is by looking.

 

Looks really good! I did the same thing to the rockers on my old Bronco. Held up pretty good. It will fade though. I took some grill black, (paint used to paint the outside of BBQ grills) and it never faded again.

 

YES...paint and clearcoat over the liner is the ticket to fight fading!

Black H2's would look great on that truck...hint hint!

 

Know where I can find a cheap set?? Probably start looking after the holidays.
