Help! Pyro probe is too long!

I'm installing an X-monitor and want the EGTs preturbo.

I drilled a hole for the EGT probe, but have yet to tap it. I test fit the probe and it hits the bottom!

Is there any way to get this to work, or do I need to install a plug in this hole and redrill elsewhere?

I drilled the hole in the top of the manifold coming from the three front cylinders as far back as possible. Plenty of X-Monitor users have described doing this.

Does your thermocouple have a compression fitting in it? I just installed my Westach guage and it was adjustable. You just can't readjust it once it's in.

Like he said. My t-cop is able to slide up and down in the compression fitting, until I tighten it down. The brass fitting that screws into the manifold has a compression nut on top, that keeps the thermocouple at the correct height once I set it.

don't feel bad, i thought the same thing when i installed my x-monitor. it is adjustable with the compression fitting and seals up nice and tight.

I had removed the brass fitting. I tried to move the compression nut, but I must not have tried hard enough. I'll try again tomorrow morning. I figured the nut wasn't supposed to move.

Should I tap all the threads all the way through or stop before I get through? How far should the brass fitting go in?

I have a fair amount of work tomorrow to get the X-Monitor working before I leave for 4,000 miles Wednesday.

If you don't tap all the way through, and then some, you may find that the brass fitting goes in very tightly, almost to the point where you think it will break off. I kept tapping and testing until I felt comfortable....
