Help Me Decide On A Turbo

Well I have done most of my work and have narrowed it down to two turbos i think: a 64/65/13ss or a 64/71/13ss. I will be hanging this turbo of on of those sexy new Fab Shop SS headers. I want a fun truck that will still be able to tow. During the summer it will tow a 33 ft go-fast on the weekends and the drag truck to the track. Thanks for all the help.

You don't say how heavy your 33' go fast is; that is the imortant question... stick with the 65 turbine for towing. Or drop to the 62 inducer. A turbo that doesn't start to light until about 1800 rpms with an auto tranny is no fun towing.

Id say between 8-10k. the ultimate goal is about 550-600 hp and be able to tow. i dont mind some lag.

Hotrod, without at least a tuner of some sort, your never going to be able to lite that 64. I run the SB62, on just crazy larry, and it is a little lazy.

If you're set on those two I would shoot for the 64/65-13 cause you're gonna need that 65 wheel to light up quicker, like said above an automatic is more sensitive to turbo changes. But if you want 500-600hp you're gonna for sure have to do tranny mods and maybe more to tow. But IMO 400hp should be plenty to pull anything you would want, I wouldn't suggest pulling all go fast.

I'm sure you're gonna be doing some extensive mods to support this right?

How does the 62/65/13 compare to the 62/65/14, other than the obvious 13/14 exhaust housing difference?

I am going to put on a 64/65/13 this weekend hopefully. I would not go with the 71 if you are planning on towing. I am leary of the 64 thinking it might be too big when towing, but I will soon find out and let you know.

Dont worry all the supporting mods will be done. There is a Goerend tranny comming soon. The Air Dog 150 going this weekend, programmer in the next month or so just havnt decided which way to go. and possibly some injectors down the road maybe.

Please do because that's the turbo I'm really curious about.

The ss has a better wastegate (as said), and they have a better heatsink at higher constant egts due to the ss hybrid material used. But characteristically they are near identical, spoolup may be a tad bit slower on the 14 than 13ss.
