Help me decide which Quad box to buy...

Well I have made the decision to buy a Quadzilla. Problem is...which one to buy (standard or race)? The wife says get whatever, so that makes the decision even harder.

I am leaning towards the standard box because I have the 6 speed and I am thinking that I wouldn't really be able to use the 140 setting unless I was running 80mph+.

What would I need to run the 140 ??
I have a 4" downpipe and elbow ready to go on the truck and I am going to run a full 4" out the back with no muffler. (no cat from factory )
I can deal with having to get a cold air kit in the future, but will my clutch hold up to the 140 if I don't do any clutch dropping?
I have a thought that with being in the clutch so much with the 6 speed that I would not get as good a benefit from the 140 hp as an auto would.
I appreciate any feedback on this decision I have to make and I would like to hear from any 6 speed owners running boxes on how well the can "use" the power.
Thanks , Dan

If I was buying one for myself I would get the Race version. I know I'm the kind of guy that will never run on the 30 setting. So why not get the extra level on top? Just in case your wife says "Just Get Whatever" When you start shopping for a Turbo and trans upgrades

Get the race version. You wont use 30hp just like you wont use 140hp.. The plus of the race box is that you have some room to grow into. Trust me, once you get used to the power, you will want more. The 30hp setting is a waste to me unless you're already reaching high temps towing max loads and you can only afford a small jump in power..

You're welcome to come out and take a ride in my truck if you want to see what it's like.

Clutch feedback

I too am very interested in this zillaraider and would like to know if the stock clutch with the 6-speed will hold-up to the race version. I'm not talking about dumping the clutch at every stop-light. Just extra oomph when driving around, passing slow pokes and light towing. I will certainly get the race if I can run the 60/100 levels. This way I can get a new clutch down the road and run the 140 level. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm finding that I can slip the clutch on 140 *IF* I'm VERY aggressive between shifts. I did some burns for a couple of Ford friends and after two or three, I did feel the clutch slip. It hasn't on normal 'heavy' accelleration however.

Another thing to realize is that the difference between 100 and 140 isn't huge. IMO it could be like running from stock to the 30hp setting...Yea it's there, but...

Jumping to 200hp! Now you're talkin!

I can see now why so many are going into the super high hp numbers. There just isn't enough power! I hear in my head "...yea 500hp and I'll be satisfied..." Then I realize I'll get used to that just as I am at 360ish. It's all relative.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but, I believe you can send the standard box back to Quad and have it upgraded to the race version for the difference in price. He provides a data plug so you don't even have to unplug the harness wires... just the box and put the data plug in its place, truck will run stock while the box is out.

The race version is very, very driver friendly at settings 60 or 100. Smooth, nice power is delivered and when you want/need more just push the pedal to the half way point and get the extra power.

checkmate, I have an 03 six speed with an edge ez. I put in a new cerametallic clutch in last month because the stock clutch started spinning in sixth gear at 80 hp setting. The truck only had 16,000 miles on it.

Yeah, but if they were both the same price I'll bet you would sell alot more race versions . The poll reprsents what peoples opinions are, not what their wallets will support.

By the way, Thanks Kyle.
Next week I will have to update my signature.

I for one don't have the $$ to upgrade everything else to accomodate the power. I don't want to break my tranny. So I got the less aggressive one. Mine is mostly for fun and hopefully better mileage. If my thought processes are incorrect please let me know. And I will send mine back for the more powerfull one.

Thanks,

Jamie
