HELP with Level Kit
HELP with Level Kit
I just ordered a 2” leveling kit. Can some one tell me the procedures on the install? Will I have to rent a coil suppresser? Will I need a front-end alignment after the install? I tried the search with no help.
Spring compressors may be had for less than $40.00 at Harbor freight.
My 98 front springs nearly fell out when I pulled the tire and placed spring compressors on snugly, pulled shock, then jacked up the frame. Pull old spring out.
Remove compressors from old spring. Install compressors on new spring. Compress new spring to stock height and re install exactly in the same position as stock spring. Re-assemble shock mounting and then repeat on the other front wheel.
Remember that springs can be very dangerous!
If you are not mechanically inclined go to Les Schwab and they can install them for less than $100.00.
Get the truck aligned immediately afterward!!

I used a free rental from AutoZone. Only needed it for the passenger side (did the driver first, then couldn't get the axle low enough to jam the coil in the pass. side)
Autozone will "rent" you the tool for a $50.00 (or so) deposit, then you return it in the same condition and get your dough back.
Do they have AutoZone(s) in CA?
As stated before, springs will send you to get new dental work if your not careful, and get the "outside" of the spring version, (bigger one)
I think there is a detailed thread on this topic, might want to search it. Drivers side shock pod can be a pain, kinda gotta weave around wires and fuel lines if I remember correctly.
Good Luck.

I supperted my truck on jackstands and undid the swaybar endlinks and shocks. I dropped the axle as far as it would go, I pulled the stock springs far enough to the side to remove the shock from the bottom. The driver's side didn't give me any problems but had to force the axle to articulate more on the pass side. I did this with the factory jack between the frame and axle, it didn't take alot of pressure to push it down and I didn't have to create a teeth remover with a spring compressor. just another option for you. it would be a good idea to have it realigned afterwards.
