Headlight Wiring Upgrade

I made the wiring harness that is described on this site and have it instaled on my 03 Ram 2500. All 12 gauge wire, new heavy duty sockets, good relays, everything. The problem is when there are no bulbs in the original sockets the lamp out light comes on and the system pulses power. This pulsing opens and closes the relay and the lights just blink very shortly. I need to be able to stop the pulsing and I'm not sure how. I did try some resistors today and they seemed to help but I don't know what I'm doing and I don't know which ones I really should use. I don't want to burn my BABY down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Lonnie

No the wiring upgrade so you are getting an actual 13 volts to the lights. The factory wiring is only about 18guage and I wired 12 guage. The problem is the computer knows when you don't have a bulb in the system and then it starts to pulse and then the relay won't stay on. I can't figure how to fool the computer. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks For Asking,
Lonnie

Are you trying to by-pass the trucks Power Distribution Center and feed your lights directly from your batteries?

As for an upgrade, this is news to me or I have forgoten about this upgrade. Either case you are in the right direction with using resistors, but since I have no idea what kind of resistance a normal bulb would have your going to have to try a few or get one with a variable setting. Otherwise, do a search for other posts that talk about upgrading to HID's they maybe able to help you find the correct ressistor and how to by-pass the lamp out light.

Give us a write up on how you wired your truck up when you are done. Do not forget the pics if you hae some.

the bulb in the truck is 55w.

why did you not go with a bulbzilla that is plug and play and already has the resistors in place?

Smile Headlight Upgrade

The Bulbzilla would be to easy and besides why spend the money when I can figure it out eventually. I enjoy doing stuff like this anyway. Plus if I build it then I understand it if something goes wrong. Jim Lane has a write up and a complete set of instructions for the wiring upgrade (with pics) but it applys to older models than my 03. The only difference is the computer (it's kind of like big brother) and it keeps track of everything. Jim is helping me with this also so I think it is just a matter of time before someone comes up with the right idea. I have to tell you that it does make a huge difference with light output. I can see forever now. What I did for now was use the parking lights for my trigger to fire the low beams and then I put an old style floor hi/low beam switch in. That way all I do is turn on the parking lights and my low beams come on and then if I want high beams just step on the switch. It works great but my lamp out light stays on. Any questions I can tell how I did it but I am no expert. I do however enjoy learning and making it work.
