H2 wheels OR 2" Leveling kit???

Got my 315's because of the Michelin warranty deal thats on another thread.

NOW I rub...

Ok what is better for the buck?

H2's will need to be mounted and balanced.
I can get the wheels alone for $300 plus the other stuff.

OR

Spacers $100
And and alignment... $?

So what will be better? I am really thinking about the spacers BUT when you start to add it all up the price will be kinda close... right?

I personally would do the leveling kit. That's what I have on my truck and I'm very happy with it. An alignment shouldn't be but $50-80.

That depends on where you are rubbing. If it is the fender or front bumper get the leveling kit, but if it on the control arms the H2's. The leveling kit will not help the control arm rubbing and the H2's with less backspacing will make fender rubbing worse. So, it all depends on where you are rubbing.

Well my opinion, I think the H2s have a wider rim which fits the 315s significantly better, making them a little more solid in turns (less sidewall bulge) and wear more evenly so you get more miles out of them.

The H2s are offset more than stock wheels so there is more bearing stress (although I have not heard of failures attributed to this) and the turning circle will be larger. It will be more stable in turns, however (wider wheel base). They do stick out of the fender but do not rub anywhere under any condition on my 2006 mega cab.

The spacers will raise the truck even more than the 315s did, making the truck more top heavy and therefore less stable in turns and harder for us short legged guys to jump in.

I think both ways the tires will not rub (unless the rub point is the control arm, for which you have no choice) so: If you drive the highway and like to speed thorough turns, the H2s are a technically better route. If you want to get into more off road, then the higher clearance spacers provide are an advantage. You may want to do an alignment regardless as both affects your steering geometry, spacers more than H2s.

I'm not up to speed on cost differences, I paid $500 for a set of H2s with 315 tires 1/4 worn. I sold my originals (forged wheels) for $600. The H2 install was simply routing out the wheel center and then a wheel - tire swap. Don't know what all is involved with spacers.

I think i would go with the leveling kit if i were you, it should make the tires stop rubbing and it will make your rig look even better with it all level

WOW!
Coldcase says he got H2's with tires for $500, SUB said he can get wheels for $300, I gotta know, where are you finding them at these prices?

I think the chrome ones look great and would like a set but the price up here north of the 49th is ridiculous, plus the local wheel shop that knows what they're doing wants over $100 each to machine them!

They are chrome and showed up on eBay, I did spend a month searching for a decent price. That was 6 months ago, don't know what the market is doing now. Sometimes they show up on craigs list.

It cost me $12 for a router bit and 15 minutes time total to machine them (I already had a 1HP router).

Easy question. If you're rubbing on the control arms get the H2s. If you're rubbing anywhere else get the level kit.

Hmmmm, will hafta watch Ebay again I guess...

Isn't machining the hubs a hi tech kinda deal cuz the centre of the wheel fitting onto the hub actually carries the load? (like my old Ford)
Or is it the wheel lugs that actually supprt the weight?

I did a search notification(?) on Ebay to my e-mail. That way I didn't have to always log on to look. I ended up with 5 chrome H2's and 315's for $500. They still had the knobby's on them! Had to drive to South Fla to get them, but way worth it.
Check out Wetspirit's posts on using a hole saw. It worked out great for me and other folks, too.

Thanks for the input guys... I am getting rubbing on the control arm. So from what you have said a leveling kit won't do it. Kinda stinks because I was leaning that way. Less$$$$ BUT here is the kicker... I also get a tiny amount of rub on the wheel well??? Anyone else????

I am worried that with the H2's it will get worse? It is not nearly as bad as the control arm rub I get now I can't make right turns!!!!!!!!!

But the wheel does make a small amount of contact on the mud flap...

What to do?
