well my friend has an 01 duramax regular cab 6speed 4x4. The only mods he has is a ppe hot plus2 e.t. eliminator and south bend dual disk clutch. I was running my ez all the way up and triple dog with 2.4.1. His has a stock intake and exhaust, while mine has aftermarket. we are both regular cabs so i figure we should be similar on weight. we got beside each other going about 30 and laid the hammer down, by the time my truck shifted into o/d he was like an 1/8 mile ahead of me. I wanna know what happened besides me getting my butt kicked. i thought we would be about the same hp but i wont know for sure till next saturday. He set up a little dyno contest between the two of us at a local shop. it will be a mustang dyno i have ran on it before. The last time was with the ez,intake,and exhaust and i put down 361hp and 705 tq. thats what i dont understand i should be over 500 with the triple dog easily. I am not for sure what the ppe will give him i just know its rated at 350hp at the crank. he has aslo dynoed there before as well and stock he put down 274hp. sorry for such a long thread but i wanted to get all the info in there. i need to know what you guys think i freakin ticked i thought i would walk all over him. do you guys think my tranny was slippen? thanks

 

I hate to say it but those dmax are fast but thats the only thing they are good for. What size tires did he have if they were stock that would be one reason and I see that you have a manual and if he had a auto that is probably the main reason. I can smoke people on the dyno but as for racing I have a manual so they stomp me main reason though my clutch is stock wont hold up to 2 gear launches with 37" tires. Anyways with you shifting you are losing time he aint if its auto.

 

the duramax has a higher hp rating stock and he has trany upgrades. my friend has a 2004 dmax with a banks big head wastegate, edge juice with attitude, and a intake. at the time i had intake exhaust edge juce and mild turbo upgrades. i thought i would take him but no. the allison is a stronger trany and i could tell it was shifting better then mine. after i put a biggger turbo and put a valve body on i beat him everytime

 

no my truck is an auto and his is a 6 speed. he is running stock tires and wheels and i am running 20" wheels and 35 12.50's. One thing i can say is i went for a ride with him before we raced and from a dead stop he can smoke the tires through all 6 gears until he lets out of it now that is down right impressive

 

I have set up 3 dmaxs in the past month and they all are real fast just cant keep up with the fuel the programs are asking for or they would be even faster. Sorry i read your post backwards but stock tires make a diff and if he had a stock clutch you would smoke him.

kmk, oh i know he would race me till he got his clutch in, i was over at his house till the we hours of the morning wednesday last week helping him pull his tranny and put the clutch in. before he did that the stocker would start slipping when he hit third gear. i can say that made a worlds of difference. thats the scarry part he said he was runnin out of fuel and he still beat me that bad lol

 

Ya but go race one stock to stock both auto the dmax are pretty fast. I love dodge but when you are in the diesel performance business you got mod what the customer brings you. They might beat me in a race, but not hooked up bumper to bumper or on a dyno.At bully dog days last event my buddys 05 dmax took 3rd for highest chevy and I beat him.

 

well thats some good news to here i might get some redemption when we hit the dyno this weekend. i am thinking of loading scarry larry for the dyno but i am scared my tranny will cash out on me. i already think it was slipping cause when we raced it kicked down to second gear and stayed at 3600 rpm for what seemed like forever before going into third then while in third i wasnt gaining speed like i normally do. o/d it picked up ok buy te time i got there he was so far ahead of me i never stood a chance

 

Chev's are also the lightest truck. Truck Trend just did a test with the Ford, Chev and Dodge, the Ford was 1000 pounds more than a similar Chev. The Dodge was a bit more than a Chev, maybe 300 pounds. Plus, you have a Ranchhand bumper, that must be 500+ pounds, and extra size tires and wheels. I bet you have 1000 more pounds of weight, and only 4 gears with the auto. You loose.

 

I dont think you should be that hard on your self about it. There is too many factors going in his favor when you ran him. He has a brand new aftermarket clutch and your tranny sounds like it is acting up, he has stock tires or close to that and you have 35's which is a big disadvantage. my dad has an 06 duramax 1 ton 4x4 with a bully dog and an intake and it is crazy how fast that truck is but I know that I will give him a run for his money every time even with 35's and I can out pull him any day of the week and get better fuel mileage doin it too. If you put your factory tires back on and upgrade your trany you would proly spank him like a redheaded step child.

 

thanks for trying to cheer me up i just hate losing its drives me crazy. Man when we got done i wanted to go spend some cash so i can beat him but the funds are a little tight right now i just need to get some things together i know i have the right combo for power just need a little tranny work and a good fuel system so i can load up my big tunes i have sitting here on my laptop just begging me to be downloaded. but just cause i lost i am not gonna load a 300hp tune and completly melt my stock tranny in an attempt to out do him with patience i will get revenge and it will be sweet!

 

Where do you get a 300hp tune for a Bullydog downloader?

Crazy Larry 2.4.1 is 170-200hp. His PPE is around 280 at the wheels. His truck is lighter too and with the stock tires against your 35's you don't really stand a chance.

You're better off racing him from a dead stop using a 4x4 boosted launch, but you're stock tranny isn't going to take too much more of that.

 

i think if you did a couple tranny mods it would be a different race, with the outcome possibly in your favor.
