Got smoked by a duramax.....

Well today i got trounced pretty bad by a 2003 duramax with a measley 50 horse hypertech tune. Its the first time i have really opened up my truck since i have owned it in 1750 miles. My dad and i went out and did a few roll ons today . One from 40 mph, one from 70mph and one from a stop light. I had my juice set on 4/4. I am waiting for tranny mods before i run level 5. From a stop light we were dead even for maybe 10 yards and then he pulled at least 3 truck lengths on me by the time we got to 55. Then we tried a 40 mph roll on. Even worse. By the time we got up to 75 he was long gone. And i mean long gone. The 70 mph roll on was about even up to 90 and then we both let off. What i learned is that the 48re has trouble getting the power to the ground via the sloppy tourque converter. The rpms climb, but the speedo doesnt move much. I have an ats triple lock tc and valve body on the way and should up and running by next week. Will this help ? I am hoping it takes the sloppy feel and the weird 3-4 shift away. What do you think?

You need to forget about racing Dmax's and psd's,the cummins is a work horse ,not a race horse.

I am not much of a racer , i ceratinly didnt buy the rig for that reason. I just thought the cummins would do a little bit better . I think the cummins has the hp and tq, just not the tranny to do it. Hopefully it can get better.

bigman,

With the mods you already have you will destroy that MaxiPad once you have the ATS converter and VB installed. The 2-3 shift is from lockup into lockup and since it is a 1:1 it grabs all the power of the engine and puts it on the ground. A 40mph roll on with that kind of power to the rear wheels will get you sidways when it grabs 3rd! Even with stock fueling parameters the converter alone is enough to make a huge difference. Don't the 05's have 4" exhaust stock? As long as you can keep the head cool you should be able to outrun most anyone on the street

Well you need an air intake and high flow muffler. You are probably better on 3/3 with everything else stock. The TC/VB will help, but need to breath a little better on both ends to take advantage of the 80 & 100hp settings. Dont sell the Durmax short, they take very well to performance boxes. They seem to get every bit of claimed hp out of them, and they do get more to the ground with their trans.

Thanks for the input so far. I have a scotty 5 on its way from right here at dtr. It should be here next week. As for the exhaust, i was hoping to get away with stock. The last cummins i had with a performance muffler was pretty loud. I am excited to get the tranny work done!

This is all bs.....

Mark...aka bigman, call me so we can solve your issue. No Duramax should ever smoke that truck. Send the Juice back for a "Hot Juice" reprogram while you get your tranny work done and I have a Ramifier you can try stacked. You have to be real carefull how you set the Attitude up or it will defuel like crazy...sometimes it is too smart for a small drag race.

Your truck weighs 1,000 lbs more than your dads (maybe more with you in it ). That is starting approx 100 hp in the hole.

My 03 duramax had the ATS tranny Ats propane and the 215 Q zilla programmer with the Duramaxamizer and I never was beated by a Dodge ever. My tires (325's) would break loose most of the time at 70! Do not underestimate the D Max.

Careful. I love the Cummins, but the DMX is probably the easiest of all the HPCR Diesel's to BOMB. We do have a displacement advantage, and Airflow advantage (talking about heads) (and the stock IHI turbo/GarrettVNT is close in flow to an HX40)and a transmission advantage ( Allison close ratio and 5 or 6 speeds)

Cummins Guys have had a HUGE turbo advantage, but Nathan (IdahoCTD) is cranking out DMX Twin Turbos like mad!

There is nothing wrong with Either CTD or DMX. In fact the CP3/R110 pump is almost carbon copy between the engines of both... so ultimate power is dictated by the fact that this particular pump can only flow so much fuel.

But I digress.
