Goodyear mt-r

In my ongoing search for a good looking wheel and tire combo, I came across the 305-70-17 MTR. It's listed at 34" (slightly smaller than the bfg 315) and is $205 a tire from tire rack.

Is anyone running these?? Also, does anyone know of a decent 17x9 wheel that is close to the proper backspacing.

I am running those tires on 17x8 wheels with no rubbing and no leveling kit. If you go with the wider wheel you will proably end up with them rubbing. It is next to impossible to find the correct backspacing for these trucks. I think the only rims around with the actual correct spacing are some special Weld wheels that T-Rex is having made. Those tires are major rock throwers. Good luck with your search.

Great Tires. They are going to be my next set. @ of my friends are running the same tire & size on their '03 CTD's and another is running 37's. Everyone out here that has had them buys them again. Wear really well, reasonably quiet (for a mud terrain), work well in most all conditions.

I think I'll be changing my mind if they throw rocks badly. I don't need an M/T but like the dimensions of the LT305/70R17's best on a stock set of wheels. Even with mud flaps, I still get lots of chipping on the rear quarters.

Thats what I'm thinking. The size is perfect and I know its a great tire, but the rock thing scares me. However, I personally think my factory bfg's throw more rocks than the Mexican kids that live behind me. I can't imagine the MTR's being worse.

I guess with a set of flares, this would be the ideal setup for my stock rims. With these being slightly smaller then the 315's, there should be no rubbing issues I'm guessing. What are you guys paying for these? I think they are like $207 ea. on tirerack.

I can tell you for certain the a BFG A/T (and most A/T's) will throw more rocks that the GY MT/R (and most M/T's). My guess is that the void pattern in the mud terrain will only pick up the larger rocks, which tend to fly out before tire speed gets very fast. With the A/T, the smaller rocks tend to be picked up and the tire keeps a stronger grip on them, so they don't fly out until the tire speed is way up, so when the rock does hit the rocker, it's more likely to chip. YMMV, but that's been my experience... much more chips in the rocker panel with A/Ts... of course anything but slicks is going to throw some rocks if you drive on gravel frequently!

BTW, when my '05 gets here, GY MT/R 305/70-17's are going on ASAP.
