Going to the track tonight

I'm taking my friends '06 auto 4x4 4-door (not Mega-cab) to the track tonight. Trying to get an idea of what kind of times I should expect. We put a Bully Dog Triple Dog on it, AFE Stage II intake, and Magnaflow muffler. Going off the way it feels compared to mine, I'm thinking it'll run mid to high 14's. Does this sound about right?

Also, are there any tricks to running these down the track? Do I just put in 4-high and mash the pedal as far as I can w/o it rolling and then launch like I do my 'Stroke? Any little tricks to get a tad more power? Also, what kind of psi should I run in the tires? I run about 25 in the back and 30 in the front on my 'Stroke, but that's with 37" tires.

Thanx for the help.

You did not say whether the Triple Dog has Crazy Larry or not, which will make a lot of difference.

With BDDL Extreme program, stock auto, stock turbo and 2wd launches I would guess low to mid 15s. 8-10psi 4wd launches would be a little lower, but with 37s you stand a chance of smoking TC or trans clutches.

With BDDL Crazy Larry and 4wd launches you might break into 14s.

I run in 4hi, ease into the first pre-stage light, then power brake boost up to where you want to launch. Use slow throttle increase to build the boost. Then bump brake to move forward to full staged light, while keeping the boost at desired level. Then wait for 3rd yellow light and dump the break and mash the pedal to the floor until you hit the end of the 1/4. Dont forget to take out of 4wd before you turn off track.

My truck has 37's, not his. He's got stock wheels and tires. He doesn't have the Crazy Larry tune on it (yet ).

So I'd be launching his the same as I launch mine. Thanx for the input.

I think 14's or 15's are to low.
I am new to the diesel world, but not new to earth
I would say 17's.

Then you are VERY new to the diesel world. My 7.3 Powerstroke ran 15.4's with just a chip, intake, and exhaust. And it's an '02 that ways between 7500 and 8000lbs. The Dodges are lighter and his is an '06 so I'd be really surprised if it wasn't in the 14's.

PS- my 7.3 ran 17's completely stock; the new diesel trucks run in the 16's bone stock

Imelmo,

I'm headed to the track tonight also. Sacramento raceway that is.

I ran 15.1, 14.94, 14.94 last time out. The 06's have a few pounds on my 05 though. But then again I'm not running the Crazy Larry either.

Wow these 3gen's are slow at the track. My old 215HP 1999 with just a drag comp box and a DTT tranny was running 14.7's.

Im sure glad Im not wasting my time with my new 03 slug

Gee...thanks there BigDan...now if you'll excuse us, we need to continue wasting OUR time with our slugs

Good luck tonight imelmo, I'm heading out to the track on Saturday with my slug, hoping to get into the 13's.

Well, my slow slug ran a best of 13.62@102.9 with little effort Satuday at Speedworld in PHX, AZ. Using only the mods listed in my sig. Going by the mph#'s, there is much room for improvement. With an addequate fuel supply (right now, I have zero pressure after about 150ft until the end of the track), and better 60ft, times than the 2.1-2.2's I'm seeing, I have a truck easily capable of low 13's.

I turned my best time 14.66@91.8mph, Not too bad for my 6950lb 1ton 4x4!

Ahh grasshopper, you ARE new to the diesel world! Just look at runamuk's ride : 14.66 with just a Quad box.

Heck, my 94 was running 13.90 with a 10 psi 4WD launch without absolutely crazy bombs.

A lot has changed in the light duty diesel world.

Thanx. Going again tonight with the stock tires and wheels on. Ran 13.2's last night with the 37's, so I'm hoping to be in the 12's with the stockers.
