Gentlemen, need some advice, please...FASS

My wonderful BD auxillary pump died today . I never did like this thing. It lasted a whole two months. I purchased a FASS(150) from TST today and it will arrive on Friday. I of course want to install this immediately. After reading the instructions, this is NO simple job!

The leads that DPP gave me were worthless for installation; I may as well have been speaking Russian to 4 of 5 local companies I called.

I have wrenched for several years and I am in good shape but I simply don't have the time or patience to do this. Just installing the aux. pump was a hassle in my experience as you lay on your back with head elevated for a long time. All the while you are being coated with diesel. Not my thing, sorry.... If something goes wrong or you can't finish, you are stuck.

I would almost pay someones airfare and time to come down here to do this, or at least help me. I want it done right.....

I believe there are several here who have accomplished this alone in one day. You have my respect.

I am back to stock fueling for the moment. It may actually still be quicker than stock, but you had better wait for the turbo to spool; and this is only a Super B!! One good thing is that temps are really cool even at WOT pushing through the floor. About 950 deg.

I had the same idea. I got it in the mail from TST and read the instructions and immediately took it to my local diesel mech. He installed it and called to tell me it was a Edit to install! he was mad about the whole thing. He was happy to do it for me but said the instructions were totally useless. He cut himself fairly badly on some heat shield messing with the pump and said dropping the tank is a huge pain in the butt to do.

Also, these pumps are LOUD! mine is even mounted on rubber washers now and its LOUD. be warned. i wasn't.

I got mine installed in a couple hours and it's not that loud. Long beds are definitely easier than short beds. I had to help a fellow member here a couple months ago to finish his install. He had the pump mounted on his shortbed but couldn't get the line off of the top of the tank. I had to get up there with my little girlie hands and finally got it loose. That was a pain. It's very easy to get to in my truck.

Ditto.

I think I'm going to order the 1/2" pickup tube kit and drop the tank for that. I just need to know that the stock return is enough so the pump doesn't deadhead.

Don’t worry about the FASS/HPFP dead heading....they both can handle it no prob. The FASS will by-pass back to the tank and the HPFP will internally by-pass to keep the motors from burning up.

How hard the install goes is all relative. When i put on my first system, it was some what a pain....but the more i did....it was a breeze. I have more experience with a wench in my hand than some....so to someone that is a weekend wrencher, it might be harder to put on.

The directions, we feel, are about as straight fwd as we can make them. Not every one is the same and will have a harder time following them than most. I might suggest that we have every manual on our web site with full color, high quality pics that might be easier to see. ALSO you can PM me and I can give some hints to make it go smoother.

Dropping the tank is not that bad if you use up most of the fuel before you drop it! Haha….getting the truck on a lift or higher up on jack stands helps. Doing it flat on the drive way would be a major pain….been there, done that!

If anyone has an issue with an install…..I’m only a PM away……..just remember that…….

Heck...Brad is on vacation in FL right now......HUM???????

Diesel_Dan,

Well.... then send Brad my way, or perhaps you too need a vacation. I will pay anyone well to do this properly, or at least assist me. I am very serious and I want it done, and done right. This area of the country is totally under represented and simply absent of any good diesel performance shops. You have my contact information on my profile. I will provide it here if need be. Let me know if Brad is interested. I am sick and tired of this stock pump already.

I really want to dismantle everything and get it all right like Pourin Diesel/Justin just did. But wait.......there is just a little money factor . FASS first. You already know I will be doing this alone if need be. Anybody out there interested. How much money will it take????

If you run into a snag...i should be on here off an on....so post something and i will try from this end to help you out. If you go slow, it should not be any big deal.

Thanks for the follow-up. Much appreciated. Your product is excellent and the kit was complete, minus a few hose clamps perhaps. Fortunately, I had the pump installed by a personal friend of Mark@TST. This man is an absolute wizard. One of the most intelligent human beings I have ever met in my life without a doubt. The knowlegde I gained was priceless. I only regret that I don't live closer.

As others have said, you know when the pump is on. This for me is reassuring. I may machine a pad to isolate the bracket. No big deal. Sort of reminds me of a hydraulic pump type sound.

Thanks again.

Chris

I put mine on last weekend as well. Went smoothe except for the suction quick release. Returned my 11.5 month old NAPA LP with a 12 month warranty today for a full refund 20 PSI now no matter what!
