fuel press vs rail press?

did the search, but couldnt find the answer i needed. looking at the geno's catalog they say fuel pressure gauge for up to 2002, and rail pressure for 03 and newer. i understand the difference, but why would you "not" want a fuel pressure gauge on 03 and newer? i would imagine that if you have plenty of fuel pressure, you would have plenty of rail pressure wouldnt you?? i'm not going to go all out on power mods, mainly going for better mileage, but i would like to keep an eye on how well the fuel is getting to the engine.

if i run a fuel pressure gauge where does it hook up on a 2005?
i plan on either a fass or gdp pump so how high a gauge should i get? would 60psi be good enough?
thanks.

I disagree with Geno's when they say no fuel pressure gauge needed on 3rd Gens, but I know the reasoning behind it. The 2nd Gens VP44's were notorious for going TU without sufficient fuel pressure. So, a FP gauge was cheap insurance, to tell you when to replace the lift pump.

Fuel Pressure is enough if you are not trying to go over 150 hp over stock. Rail Pressure is key at that point and over...and it helps trying to diagnose problems.

You can intall it several differant places. I had mine tapped into the bottom of my fuel bowl before my GDP kit. Now I have it T'ed into the line between my cp3 and fuel rail. You can also buy a billet fuel filter cap that is tapped for a fitting and have it read from there. However the closer you are to you rail/cp3 the better off you will be cause you have a more accurate reading.

A rail guage hooks into the rail pressure sensor.

I dont know how much psi a fass runs but it should be some what adjustable. I would think out of the box you should get somewhere around 20 psi? Someone with a fass care to enlighten me/us?

My electric fuel pressure gauge is T'd into the rubber fuel line from the FASS to the CP3. My FASS 95gph is 18psi at idle.

i think fuel pressure is vital if you plan to mod a your truck. It was only at 5psi on my 05 before I had a fass pump installed. a glacier fuel system was one of the first mods I installed on my 06. I think rail pressure is important also just with big mods. I have a fuel pressure gauge in my trk. I dont have a rail pressure gauge but would like to get one installed at some point

Get 'em both. I think fuel pressure first and when add rail pressure as performance mods grow as stated above.
