Front bumper toast...what to do???

Well, I hit a bear this evening on the way to work and destroyed my front bumper. What should I do? Replace with original or go aftermarket.

the odds of hitting another large animal are against you, I'd get an after market.

Yup... unless you are really pressed for cash I'd go adftermarket all the way. When OE crap gets messed up it is always an excuse for an upgrade

sounds like you are ok

I actually wonder what else is messed up. when I took off my original bumper I found out there is not much to it. if all the bear did was mess up the bumper you are lucky.

my vote is for a buckstop, but they are all good. all depends on the look you want.
there may be other companies closer to you and you could save on some shipping.

my bumper,

My bumper may be fugly but it and the underside skidplates keep everything else safe. Downeaster, does this mean we will be having bear steaks when I get to Machias. There are lots of folks on here with stock bumpers probably in their garage. Mine has repelled two deer so far....Don't know if it would survive a moose but it would do better than stock!! At you time of misery all everyone wants is pictures. The least you need is a good solid brush bar. I had a buddy with a very nice bumper off a d max that he isn't using ....It is a close fit to mine surprisingly but wayyyyy prettier. Kerry

Nriver, it is build around a solid 6xxx series H beam 10"x8" with 5/8" x 1/2" webs. It is not quite done because I haven't decided on the top style finish or the upright reinforcements. I have a rubber D bumper that goes on the front but I haven't put it on because with the crappy drivers around here I'd probably get in trouble for intentionally using it . Last time it was weighed it was less than 200 pounds and the skids are about 40pounds and the bolts, steel brackets and tow hooks (stock) were about 30 pounds. I hit a fawn on the passenger side and a big doe on the driver side at 65mph. It bent the top corner back 3/8 of an inch.....it was a big hit in my books.....no other damage except some little hoof scratches on the paint. ks

That thing does absoltuely nothing by funnel the deer/bear/cow into your grill and through your condenser/intercooler/radiator.
