![Question](https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I am looking for recommendations for a new floor jack to replace my leaking 2-1/2 ton Norco. My present jack leaks oil every time I put a load on it and I'm tired of the mess it keeps making. What size and mfg.are you using to to do routine maintenance on 2500/3500 series CTD's. I would like a low profile, <4", to use on my other vehicles. Thanks for your suggestions.

If you like the one you've got then you might try to find a seal kit, but for the truck I would suggest a larger, at least a 3 1/2 , sizing your tools or trucks so when you go to use them that they are worked in there mid range not the upper range of rating. I found that buying the best and once when I buy it , rather than every time I use it. Blackhawk is one of several good brands, then if you use automotive much then buying off one of the tool trucks [snap on , mac...] the high price includes service , like if the one you had came from one of them they could supply you with the kit, and if you do much bis. with them they may come to you once a week, but they will drop ship also.

Big Red
I bought a Big red jack from pep boys. On sale for 50 bucks and it's a 3 ton. I don't use it that much and it's held up great so far (dad's had one for about 6 years and it's been used non stop) no leaks or anything. If I had the money I'd go get a real nice one, but for that price I've had no problems. We also had a 2 ton but blew the seals (truck is too heavy) For work on your truck, at least a 3 ton jack and I use 6 ton jack stands when my butts under it.

I'll agree to get something bigger than a 2 1/2 ton. I have one of the larger garage jacks and it is harder to lift the front end than I'd like it to be.o for something at least 3 ton.

I too have the craftsman black professional series jack. No issues with leaks yet and have had it since 99. Came with two 3 ton jackstands for 99 dollars. Lifts up anything I need it to. If you go the snap on route it will be much more than 99 dollars. I would go the craftsman way unless you own a repair shop or are a mechanic for a living.

Look in the drivers door jam to find weight, gross is fully loaded , thats one reason why getting a better tool-bigger , it seems that things break at the worst possible times , like when your fully loaded, do you realy want to shovel that load out and then back in again, and don't forget your going under the truck so get the jack stands also.

I have a 3 ton craftsman (that also came w/ jack stands) and I have a 3 1/2 ton craftsman (w/ jack stands) -- Love those "holiday" sets from Sears!
The 3 ton worked fine and I only got the other one because it was a nice set and on sale for like $75 at the time...
The Holiday's are coming.. shop around, there's going to be alot of great deals coming soon!

I also have the Craftsman 3 ton jack and jackstands. No problems with the Cummins, front or rear, and no problems with the Yukon XL front or rear. So far so good, and it is around 6 years old now.

Sorry, if this is off topic. Has anyone every used the jack under the front seat to change a tire on their truck?? I have not taken it out, but I just don't see trying to use it for anything related to the truck. I have a Craftsman 3 1/2 ton that I have in a removeable tool box. Kind of a pain loading and unloading, but when I am on the road I try to carry everything I need.

I used the under seat jack once. It worked, and that's all the good I can say about it.
I thought my hand was going to fall off turning that **** to unscrew it. Fortunately it finally got it long enough to actually begin jacking. I don't understand why auto makers put the sorriest gizmos in vehicles to use for flat tires. It's bad enough you got a flat, then you have to use the junk they call a jack and tire tools... I guess they want to make a simple flat as miserable as possible.
