first time truck down

This morning I was driving with a 2000 lbs (weight trailer alone) boattrailer on my way to the marina to take my buddy,s boat out of the water .
I was accelerating up to 60 mph under 3/4 throttle ,when I heared sounds from hell under the truck ,and felt no power anymore ,I steered the truck down the road and shut of the engine ,after that I looked under the truck to see if there,s anything strange ,but saw no oil ...nothing ,I tried to fire the engine ,but only heared the starter engine turning at high rpm with no engine turning ...I guessed it was a broken flexplate..so I called a friend with a pick up for the boattrailer ,and another guy in town with a big truck that could bring my truck to the garage not far from my home .
We pushed the truck on the lift with 6 people ,and raised the truck 6 ft high ,we opend up the inspection hole to find out what went wrong.

We could push the starter ring /flexplate up and down and left and right ,so definatly the flexplate broke .
This was still the original flexplate from Dodge .
I guess I don,t have anything to complain since this plate was never designed to handle the added torque .

I was thinking about buying a BD flexplate ,they claim their plate can handle 1500 LBS torque .
What do you guys think ?

Is there any change the torque converter has damaged the seal or the connection that connect the converter to the pump ??

Unfortunatly no, I did not ordered a better flexplate,I guess I forget.....or ...Ehh I don,t know .

I called Dave Goerend, and ordered a billet plate and seal.

Dave said I might have a small change the converter is damaged ,but I hope my mechanic will have time to pull the trans,so we can have a look at things.

Will let you know

Sterling,

I JUST had the same thing happen. You need to have someone go through and inspect the pump, input shaft and transmission front seal. As well, depending on the year of your truck and miles replace your rear main seal while you are in there. Here is what you are looking at.

See all the mateerial in the "hub" of the flexplate? Thats converter material.

Notice the center hub of the converter, its missing 1/2 of the hub.

The bolts on the front of the pump were trashed when the converter slammed into them.

The front seal was damaged when the converter hit it.

The front of the converter was damaged from the bolts as it trashed them.

Here is the pump being inspected and the seal being replaced.

The input shaft had a little abrasion on it, but should be ok...

truck is running

The truck is running since yesterday,my friend installed the new billet plate ,the old flex plate broke vey clean ,and there was no other damage to be found .
I am driving my truck like I,m breaking it in .... ha ha ,I ,m a little afraid something will break ,but since this was the first time I broke something on this truck I think it will be fine .

thanks A.J

He told me I didn't need one either. Two weeks later I pulled the transmission out again after it broke.
