First problem with custom intake..

Went to change the oil filter yesterday and man what a pain it is trying to get the thick rubber elbow off the turbo to move it all out of the way so I can get the filter out! It was definitely much easier with the stock rubber boots... I finally got it off and it all went back together easily. The main pain is the nice clamps I bought that have the nut going onto a threaded shaft to tighten the clamp. It just takes forever to get it loose. I may go back to the stock type hose clamps.....

try a deep socket onto a socket drive adaptor for tyour screw gun..... works like a charm, I even yuse it with the 1/2 inch drive adaptor for doing whell changes. break em loose and then power em off with the cordless, 8 lugs a tire gets old fast by hand.

Try removing the thing from the bottom next. Even though it's tight and a hassel getting to it, it sounds like less trouble than what you just went through.

I second that motion. Get a oil filter wrench that fits the bottom of the oil fiter (make sure it's metal). Use a 3/8 ratchet and 12" extension (might need another 4" extension) with the filter wrench to loosen the filter. Drop it out of the bottom, super easy and fast! Install in reverse (remember to fill the filter with oil first). Cake!

I always remove mine from the bottom. There is a small gap in the wheel well shroud that allows me to get to the filter with a small strap wrench to get it started.

You mean it's actually possible to NOT remove the filter from the bottom??

Ya! I have always just removed the intake hose from between the airbox and the turbo. Then It's very easy to get the oil filter out. It's just not that easy with the H/D rubber boots and the BHAF...

I've never even thought of that. I always just climb underneath and remove it from the bottom. I figure I have to crawl under there anyway to drain the oil so I might as well get the filter while I'm down there.
