FINALLY Did Intake & Exhaust
FINALLY Did Intake & Exhaust
My CTD now sounds like a truck should. Installed the AEM Brute Force and made my own muffler delete. I had to modify the AEM shield a bit to be able to close my hood, as I read someone else did as well. Measured down about 2" on the forward end and cut it up to the rear corner. Simple, and took all of 2 minutes, then installed the seal as per the instructions, fits perfect.
The exhaust was simple as well, kept the Cat, for now. Went to the local large truck shop, Motortrucks NW, bought 4' of 4" exhaust tube, some adapters and clamps, about $45. I originally bought over $100 bucks of stuff, but returned what I didn't need. I used the sawzall, tried to get the muffler off with other methods, heat, chisel, hammer, the whole nine yards to no avail. So, the saw took just 2 cuts, like a hot knife thru butter! Had to grind a small nub off the top of the pipe that I guess was used for muffler alignment at the factory, for the adapter to fit. I didn't need any bends or flex couplings, just tickled it a little till it fit how I wanted, tightened the clamps, and all was well in the world again! Only used about 3' of the tube, maybe a couple inches more, didn't measure, just propped it up there and marked for the cut.
The turbo now sounds like a jet, but it's not as loud as I thought it would be from some of what I've read. There is NO EXHAUST DRONE!, important because I have a wife and dogs that go with me and have to be kept happy, to a point, may still get rid of the cat.
Now I need gauges, probably Westach, then a Smarty, then Banks new intake manifold, ARP head studs, turbo, injectors, then...then...and on! I was going to keep it fairly stock, told myself and the wife that, Yeah Right!!

Did you remove the silencer ring in the turbo inlet? If not, then that will give you some additional turbo noise.
Congrats on the upgrades.....They sound sooooo much better once their opened up a little....

Silencer Ring
Yes, I did remove the silencer ring, did that a couple months ago. That, and removed the baffle and vanes in the last elbow, those mods woke up the intake a tiny bit. Now it really sings!!
that looks awesome! the brute force looks like it is jumping out of the engine. where did you get it and how much? seems the going price is around $250. I am checking out the new "Work Horse" but that costs an addition $100 bones!
Intake
I bought the AEM from a local dealer, I told him how cheap I could get it online, about $250, which was $75 cheaper than what he wanted. I mentioned how I would rather by local, support local business and all that, IF it is close in price, he knocked off the difference and OTD it was $271. A little more than online, but worth it to me, and it was in the next morning at 9am!!
As for the silencer ring, there is lots on here about it, and it's super easy. Took me longer to get the tools handy than the actual process. Take off your lower intake hose, use a small flat blade screwdriver to GENTLY pry out the inner clip, one end is flat, the other angled, start with the angled end. You only have to get it out of the groove about half an inch, work around the clip till it's all out of the groove, and pull it out. The silencer ring will practically fall out. Reinstall your intake tube and you're all done!
