Finally!!! After almost a 1.5 year hiatus...

I've got some power again!!!

I sold my '03 in early '07, went 6 months w/o a truck, and here I am today...

I dropped my truck off at Left Coast Diesel to have a Goerend converter, valve body, input shaft, apply lever anchor thingy, BD Billet flex plate and Mag-Hytek double-deep pan installed on Tuesday. I picked it up yesterday afternoon. (Thanks Brett and Erik)

After all the negative posts about quick shifting (like 1-3 within the intersection), hanging gears and hard shifting that I've read about regarding modded 48RE's, I was not expecting much except a stout tranny. I took it out for a spin with stock power. I was surprised by the firmer yet smooth shifting, seemingly timed perfectly. No matter what the throttle setting, the shifting was right. Awesome. It took more pedal to get the truck moving due to the tighter converter, but I expected that. Around town, it seems more efficient, requiring less rpm to maintain speed.

So now comes the power. I loaded SW7 and let it rip. Great shifts, right at redline. No complaints. I expected funny shifting due to less pedal travel, but nope. Still shifts good at partial throttle and WOT. If I had one complaint, it would be the 3-4 shift while locked up. It's a bit rough, and only really occurs when I leave the exhaust brake on. With the new tc/vb, the truck seems happier running around w/o the brake on. The reverse was true with the stock setup. Without the EB turned on, it seems the converter stays unlocked until well into overdrive. TC lockup at light throttle is almost impossiple to perceive. It's got to be very efficient. I'm happy I went with Goerend parts.

As for the Smarty, I can say it's a huge improvement in smoothness and drivability over the original Smarty I ran in my '03. Kudos to Marco and Bob. They've got a great thing going on!!!

Now, the only problem is that I'm not satisfied. I want the rush my last truck gave me, and a stock fuel system and stock turbo isn't going to do it. Time to get a 2nd job...

I've got to get some new pics, as I've posted these before...

And here's the truck I wish I still had (although I'm getting over that now thanks to the Smarty and tranny):

I tell you, going from February to August without a truck was killing me!

Ha ha. I've been thinking about that daily, but the Smarty has me forgetting the old and looking forward to the new. Fuel, twins, sticks, it will all get in there eventually...
