feedback from a run on the new smarty beta....

I got a chance to try out the new Smarty software today. It's the new 4.4 version. The claims are lower egt's, better fuel mileage and less smoke.

First I must say... my truck is a little built and I have a lot of fuel. When running previous beta softwares, my truck smoked like you would believe. I tried just about all levels in the 4.2, 4.3 & 4.4. All had great power but, I would shut down interstates running them. EGT's were always a problem too. It wouldn't take much to bury the gauge @ WOT

Ok, this new software IMO has done what was claimed ! I don't know about mileage but, the power is still there... a very responsive throttle ( as usual ) and smoke has been cut to a 3rd of what I had before.

I have a few 8% grades where I live which really isn't much but, it was always enough to get my egt's going higher. I took a drive up the grade with this new software and I couldn't get the egt's to go past 1200F. In fact, with everything I tried.... WOT, going up grades...etc, the egt's never went past 1200F, on top of that.... very little smoke. The temp seem to stall right before 1200F everytime. Sweet !! I'm used to seeing that temp+ and a ton of smoke going up grades on the older beta software.

Marco, Bob and all involved seem to be right on track to get the bugs worked out and the suggestions worked into the new software.

I don't know when Bob will be ready to release this new software but I bet it's going to be soon cause it seems to be ready to go ! I think many will end up being happier than they were with the older software.

Anyone else who got to try it out..... feel free to add to this post

Well i also have the new beta, and i have to agree with what you said, ive driven about 250 miles with it.mileage went down at first but is now creeping back.
Way less smoke,i really have to lug it in sw7 to get any substantial smoke.Egts not an issue at all.
What really surprised me was how smooth the power is,silky smooth.
I didnt know this was the 4.4,so far all is good

We have tried the 4.4 and love it!!! As that is what we were running at diesel nationals. Ty do you have the sl 4.4 or standard 4.4? Also how would you compare the 4.2 race wise better e/t?

Chris, this is the latest version also known as the 4.4. Bob just got it the other day I believe and sent it to a few of us to try out.

IMO, none can compare to the power the older 4.2 delivered but, it was a track only software... for my truck anyway.

I think Bob and crew also have a race tune that will be available at some point. I'm really looking forward to that.

On my truck anyway... I really couldn't use any of the betas to drive on the road with. They smoked too much. I think I'll now be able to run the smarty for casual driving.

My results = 648/1433 - egts 1100

The egts were low with the Smarty due to how the timing was mapped, but it was still not a safe program for my little turbo. The drive pressure had to be through the roof. We had been doing three runs and then letting the truck cool. It was cool before the Smarty run and after only 1 run, you could barely touch the inlet side of the intercooler it was so hot.

The Smarty run was not a peak either. It carried over 630hp from 2300rpms clear through 2900rpms and was still over 600hp at redline.

I talked John into reloading that program before I left so I could drive it at least once. WOW! enough said.

Maybe I might have to buy another smarty if they solved the smoke problem, thats the only reason I got rid of it

I just got my Smarty and can't believe how the truck runs. With the new Quad box stacked it is scary. I can't imagine what this new software is like. Has anyone done any stacking with the 4.4 and the new Quad box? Do they stack well together or really no need to stack?

Bob sent me a new Smarty version yesterday to try. It is not a Beta 4.x version, but looks like based on file name is a ready to release version for Aftermarket Turbo, stock injectors and Mild TM.

The only issue I have really had with any of the Smarty code versions is smoke while driving in the Galleria area in Houston. Not really a problem for me, but is for the BMW/Mercedes class. Of course sometimes a very good thing for me.

My truck has moderate mods compared to a lot of others, but it is between 585-600hp and runs very good on the track with the Smarty stacked.

I have done some playing today although had to waite for streets to dry after raining all night and morning. It will still go sideways at 50 when shifting if the tires or street have a little water on them.

I tried it with my normal stack of Smarty #6, TST 05TT program and 2/0(for timing only) and EZ on Level 1.

Then turned off the TST and loaded Smarty #9.

Both certainly seemed a little smoother overall, especially from stopped excelleration. My normal somewhat eractic 1-2 shifts are gone, but this could be because I run either Moderate TM or Wild TM.

Smoke is definitely much better under all conditions on mine. Still get some when it is lagged, but not near as bad and cleans up very quick.

EGTs are definitely lower overall and quite a bit at higher RPMs/speed.

This version seems like a very nice daily driver version even with my laggy turbo.

I will run this level for the next few days and see what else I find.

Good to hear!!! Ill be checking my email box for bobs email soon wink wink The smarty and I have a love hate relationship. I love everything about it but the constant smoke covering my trailer towing. So I cant wait for the new file!!! Should go well with the MPI twins HTT62/13 SS / S400 being installed as we speak

Yes I am running the new quad x2 pressure stacker software with the smarty beta 4.4sl and love it this combo netted my best e/t's to date. But this is not the 4.4 that Ty is mentioning.

More beta x feedback.

I've got a stock '07 w 285's,G-56 and 2000# on my back all the time. Excessive smoke in the past kept my Smarty imprisoned in the bedroom until beta x released it today. Smoke levels are down considerably,it does yield a noisier idle as before but no timing rattle under acceleration. I'm only able to load sw#1 due to stock clutch and load but everything looks better than before. I'm going to fill the Beast up manana(ouch) and drive it normally for a long term test. No CEL's,surging etc. so far. Thanks Marco and Bob.
