I am not looking to "Bomb" the truck. IT actually runs quite good for my use.

What I am looking for is a larger exhaust or possibly just a muffler that will permit me to loose some of the dead pedal (that spot where no matter how much throttle you give 'er it doesnt run any better), better sound (like that big peterbuilt low toned booowaaaa, boooowaaa), and possibly boost fuel economy while lowering EGT's some.

I read on the board that replacing the downpipe causes some problems with howling and fluttering of the turbo.?! So maybe I'd avoid that mod.

Finally, I was looking at the Banks and Gibson SS exhaust systems. Definitely want the Stainless for the PA winters. OF course any other recommendations would be considered.

IS there any sound recordings or files available?

Diamond eye has the turbo to tailpipe in a stainless or aluminized for the 03-04

 

I love my hogs performance system, sounds great, almost no drone and fairly priced,,, they have three muffs and I went with quietest muffler,,, 4" with the 5.5 tip, tried the 4" tip and was too quiet...

Your fears of howling etc are a function of the muffler, if you get one that is a TRUE muffler with a high temp packing material you shouldn't have any problems. A lot of the systems out there have no packing material as the packing material is very expensive if you use a high temp one that will last. We even have a resonator that can be added for those folks that are real sensitive to any increase in noise level.

You should consider the T-304 stainless if you plan to keep the truck for more than 5 years, the T-409 stainless brands that you mentioned will get rust spots and turn brown/gray like any T-409 will after the first salt you run thru in a PA winter. The T-304 is a non magnetic stainless and it has a high content of Nickel and Chromium, that and the extra labor to bend it is the reason it costs more, but it will laugh at that PA winter time salt on the roads. You can wipe it down with hot soapy water in the spring and it will look almost the same as the day you installed it. We also have all the T-409 stainelss and aluminized systems but for the NW salt belt the T-304 will work much better for you.

Talk to AK RAM about the howling with the Banks downpipe. He went back to the cast elbow and a regular downpipe and finally lost his howl. As far as mufflers go, I'm running the 34" Donaldson with my stacks and have zero drone now. The DPPI system was nice but the drone would run you out of the cab on my truck. Banks Monster exhaust is one of hte best for your truck as the down pipe connects directly tot he turbo outlet to give you a full 4" system all the way. Banks also has an expansion area in the front part of the muffler to help avoid the dreded drone of some after market exhaust system. Great fit, finish and sound as well. The only thing a guy might consider adding is an Aeroturbine right on the down pipe to lower EGTs even more.

 

I just installed an MBRP 4" cat back system on my 600 it is the t-304 stainless and it looks and sounds great. Price wasn't bad either! I also live in the great state of PA

 

whats the difference if any between rips 4" and the diamond eye 4" there the same price and look bout the same

 

suzukizrider, the diamond eye, and rips system are one in the same, although sometimes he replaces the diamond eye muffler with a donaldson if thats what you want. hes a great guy, and does excellent work at a very reasonable price. just my .02

 

Just don't buy overpriced exhaust there is alot of it out there I had a guy call me today about juice and afe he told me he was buying stainless catback for 650.00 that's insane

 

I built my own exhaust with a Banks 4" downpipe, 4" straight pipe, Magnaflow muffler, and modified stock tailpipe w/ 5" stainless tip. I think it sounds great and get lots of compliments. The only drone I get is at full throttle and that only arrived with the addition of the Banks 4" downpipe. The only problem I have is with the clamp that holds the DP to the turbo coming loose and the DP will shift just enough to rub the trans and cause a little vibration.

Did you use the gasket between the DP and the turbo that came with the Banks DP. If not maybe that would help along with rotating the pipes slightly so the hangers provide neutral twist to the pipe. Just a couple of thoughts.

 

I gave $350 for my 5" system with downpipe. I like how it sounds, but I want a little more sound. You can find good deals if you look around a little.

 

They are exactly the same product.
