(Not performance) I have tried the exhaust sounds of: Stock mufflers set-up, muffler 36”x 7”, muffler 24”x7”, kitty, no kitty, 12”x5” tip, 24”x 6” tip, etc. And not totally please with the sound. By reading other posts I learn about the better sound of a 5” Turbo back system combine with an after market manifold.

I would think 5" cat back would sount the same as full turbo back, you may could just do a 5" tail section ant that be good enough.
I didnt notice any performance mods, if you do a 5" turbo back you may lose some low end. And I dont know if you will notice much differance in sound with a differnat manifold if you are still runnin a factory turbo.

My plan is to switch to a 2nd gen ATS manifold and a 2nd gen downpipe. Then I'll have some nice bass coming from my exhaust! Big turbo, 2nd gen manifold, custom DP and modified intake. Should make for a nice couple of weekend projects...
I have a basic 4" turbo back straightpipe built by a shop back home and it sounded like feces at higher RPM w/ stock manifold and turbo. I have silver bullet and ATS man. now and sounds totally different when you get on it.....
IE-- like a sentra before and a supra now.
BUT my $.02.... the turbo/ manifold install isnt difficult, but it can be tedious and get aggrivating if everything isnt perfect. I recomend not changing your exhaust manifold till you get a new turbo, and do it all at once. It will be a big difference in sound.... and if you really wanna sound cool go with twins, your engine will be slightly quieter with an even deeper tone. and the whistle is awesome.
Also an offroad use cam with NON-IN-CYLINDER-EGR-DURATION-OVERLAP changes the higher rpm sound too but it will affect your emissions.

I now have a full 5" turbo back system on my truck with no cat and the ATS exhaust manifold along with everything else you see in my sig. I have no raspiness others speak of. It's deep and in command. I did change out the muffler that came with the Flo Pro for a Donaldson 51" and that made the deeper tone along with removing the drone. I'm happy with it where it is now and even towing my toy hauler it's back to where we can converse in the cab again without raising our voices. Wife's happy, everyone's happy.
