Exhaust manifold cutaway, it it open all the way through?
Due to a pain in the butt plug I'm having to redrill my exhaust manifold. There are a number of tiny raised bumps on top of the manifold. The only place I can reach with my current tools involves drill one of the small bumps. Just want to make sure there isnt something running below the small bumps for strength. Any info would be appreciated.
Exhaust manifold "boss"
I presume you are referring to the round raised metal 'boss' or **** on the exhaust manifold that is a little larger than the 1/8" NPT pipe thread you will use to tap the hole after you drill it. If this is the case then that is a great spot to place your thermocouple as the exhaust manifold is thicker there and less likely to crack. That is were I drilled mine.
Do not forget to sparingly apply a little high temperature never-seize on the thermocouple threads before installing in the exhaust manifold so you can remove it if necessary.
