Exhaust

I'm just starting to mod my 07 5.9. First steps will be intake and exhaust. I'm wanting to know if any of you deleted your muffler and cat while keeping your oem exhaust? I'm wanting to know how loud it is and if there is a cab drown. I'm not wanting that. Also any of you using S&B intakes? If so are you happy and any noticable improvements? Thanks for any help.

I originally had the stock system completely straight piped and it was too loud for me and had too much drone. Now, I have a 5" turbo back with a muffler and it dumps as soon as it goes over the axle. Sounds much better with very little drone.

As for the intake, I've heard some good things about the S&B but I don't actually have one. I've got an aFe Stage 2.

I have an S & B, good value and a lot more whistle.

As for exhaust, DO NOT remove the whole system and put big duals or waste your money on a big shiny hypermarket system unless you're planning on 700 HP or something.
I just changed my muffler to a 40" Nelson I bought from Cummins for $67, pics are in my gallery.

BTW, welcome! You can learn lots here!

I would drop the cat and get a good muffler, like mbrp, diamond eye etc.
as for cold air kits I would look into that new AEM heavy duty, the icebox or the new AFE mega cannon all those look good for the money and they are nicely built. I can tell you that I ran a volant on my truck and it was a joke

Thanks for all the info. Now I'll just delete the cat and get a muffler. Have any of you removed your ring in the turbo to get a little more whistle? When I install the new intake might as well do that if it's worth my time. Is there any other purpose to it being there?

Nah..... no other purpose than to alleviate the whistle. I removed mine and there is a difference but it's not a huge difference. A good intake (like you are looking at) should get you what you want.

I first removed the silencer ring, Noticeable difference.
Then added S&B, BIG Difference.
Only thing i can say about the deleted cat & muffler is you can hear it a lot better out of the exhaust but inside, people think the turbo is in the glove box!!

I'd look at a ****** whistler (do a search for it, or ask 53willys about it). It will save you some money. If you want a full kit already put together, any of the intakes would work fine. I've had my Afe for over 2 yrs now and love it. Exhaustwise i would drop the feline and run a good muffler, like a donaldson, nelson or mbrp.

I'm running straight pipe myself and yes i love it being loud but i'm looking for something a little deeper. Do you think a good muffler would do that while keeping noise levels up??

The donaldson will be quieter at idle, but will have a nice rumble going down the road, virtually drone free. If you want deeper but louder than a muffler I'd go 5inch. Or stacks...

Agreed. Like I said, I've got a 5" turbo-back kit that is dumped behind the axle and it sounds really good. Much deeper than a 4" exhaust, but it is a little quieter too.
