engine upgrades

i have an 05 dodge and was thinking about stacking my dr.p with a smarty and doing some other upgrades but i figured it was always better to take care of my engine and tranny first, anyways i got the tranny figured out but i was wondering what all i needed to do to my engine?

not much needed i have not upgraded any hard parts yet if you go high boost with twins you might need to ring the head. there are alot of things out there to do but you dont need them at this point such as coating the pistons and so on. the tranny is the big problem.

so would you just leave it alone or would you go ahead and get head studs?
also on the tranny i planned on getting a new tc, vb and shaft?

If you're going to do studs might as well get the head o-ringed. At least you won't have to worry about the HG with high boost levels.

Thumbs up

How much power are you looking to make? That stack works real good on stock trucks tuned softly. Great performance, driveability, low egt's & economy with plenty of room to grow.

I wouldn't worry about o-ringing the head. I have ran 52# on my stock head bolts quite a few times. I have since studded mine and wouldn't worry unless you are going above 55# boost.

Can't tell you what you need to do regarding the stack, but with the Smarty alone, unless you want to make more than the 170+ HP of the Smarty Revo (not TNT) on level 9 and "stock engine" settings, you really don't need to do anything to your engine, but if you are running at level 5 and up on an auto (higher on a manual) you'll need to upgrade your TC or clutch. If you do the TNT, you need to do studs, turbo, etc. and Marco won't even give it to you if you don't have minimum required equipment. I would definitely want a pyrometer (EGT gauge) on it.

im not a big 3rd gen master but i have a buddy with a 2005 cummins with a smarty on i think level 7 with the revo tune stacked with a mp-8 intake and exhaust. he has 60000 miles on the truck and dynod 498hp the first month he owned the truck it was in the shop for a new tranny twice. and that was with the smarty on level 4 with nothing else yet installed. do your tranny turbo and studs after that have some fun and put a bunch of goodies on just research everything first and make sure your rail pressure and egts stay in check. i wouldnt do a oringed head it will be a waste of your money. i know manny people with well over 500hp and have nothing but tranny head studs turbo and the supporting fuel needs.

Springs are good but not a must at this point. I would buy studs, springs and then do the injectors and have them all installed at once. It will save you some cash or time on install. Springs are a must when you are getting high boost numbers or are going to spin higher than factory rev limiter. stock head gasket should be good to 60+ with studs.
