Question EGTs too high

I have a 04.5 600 and i recently inatalled the bullydog dl. Excelent power, but the EGTs get up there real quick. 1500 pre turbo on extreme is no problem,(only for a second, i let off). I was wondering what all of yall are doing to lower the egts. Intakes, exhuasts, so on. Rigth now it has a straight pipe. I imagine that helps a bit but not much. I was definitley planning on an intake, so which one would you reccomend? Thank you for your time

Larger turbo!

It is really the only way to cool down much...the stocker can barely support 60 or so more hp. Use Scotty's Ram Air III. Best working, easiest to clean, and CHEAPEST! Hard to beat!

Depends on what you want to spend and what you like visually.

Cheap and effective...swap the muffler with a Donaldson or other big rig 4" in and out (you don't need to much other to a 4.5 exhaust since you have a true 4" down pipe already)

or

Spend up to 8-9-1000 bucks on a complete stainless system from Banks, DPP, etc.

I am not a bling type of guy so I opted for the first choice. Some systems have a drone...so make sure you research on the forum. HOG, Silverline, etc...so many choices.

He already is running a straight pipe.

Can't really get much better flow than that except removing the cat which probably would make much difference either.

The Extreme is just that, it's not intended to be used daily, but for off-road/dragrace applications. You'll just have to keep your foot out of it or try the Perforance setting. My .02

yes, i already do have a straight pipe and the cat accidently fell off one day right after i got it. And as you said the extreme is for peirodic use only but i just want it be more capable of using the power when i do have it on the extreme setting. I normally run it on the performance setting, pletty of power for me, but even there it gets pretty high for me, over 1300, probably ok but the cooler i can get it the better. Would a 5 or 6 inch exhuast help any. If so , how much could i expect to get out of it. I would rather use a 5 inch so i can reuse my tip and i dont think that 6 inch would really make much difference over the 5. Thank you

also, i have been told that you can only put a 4" downpipe on these trucks, and a 5" will not fit, is this true???

Your not gonna gain anything by going to a 5" exhaust unless your over 450 hp.

If you really want to cool things down then a bigger turbo is your best choice like cquestad said.

I would probably leave the exhaust alone since its already a complete 4 inch system.

Something else to remember is that these truck can handle more heat(high egts) compared to the previous generation trucks. Some guys are seeing 1400-1450 degrees stock. Whatever temps you are seeing stock would be a safe bet that you could sustain those temps without hurting anything, otherwise dodge/cummins wouldn't allow those temps to get that high.

The 5" would not increase the power of the truck, or it would not decrease EGTs. I dont really know for sure but the 600 puts about 280 hp to the rear wheels and with the addition of 130 extra rear wheel hp it would be around 410hp at the rear wheels (pretty close to 450hp)and substancially more than that at the flywheel. Is this correct or am i missing something. Thank you for your time

thanks for all of the info, from what i am getting, i should go with the scotty 3 intake and leave the 4"system alone, and at somepoint install a larger turbo if it continues to be a problem. Aslo, with an intake upgrade, how much could i expect the EGTs to go down and will it decrease the amount of black smoke. Thank You

The Bully Dog smokes like crazy no matter what you do. You want the EGT's to go down? Clamp the boost hose off. Yes you will be decreasing the lifespan of your turbo, but if you want a bigger one down the road then who cares... Mine's been blocked for 9k miles with no problems and I have the TST and the BD DL'er and 465hp! These 600 turbo's can take one heck of a beating. I can tow up to 4k with the BD on extreme, and never see 1000deg (preturbo) unless I'm outrunning an unloaded PowerJoke up a long hill Truth is I can't even force the BD to get to 1300 with a trailer on... The TST is a diff. story.
