I don't have it off hand. Do a search...it's been talked about 100 times. Mine's the 51" version.

Edit: actually it's in my sig. Duh...

The stock muffler was terrible. I installed a Donaldson, and it's better. However, it's still not very good. Towing my toyhauler, especially when it lugs a hill, is just agonizing. You can hardly hear yourself think in the back. It's like you're on an flight right next to the engines.

Isn't there a solution to this. Aerosomething er other muffler? Double layer Dynomat? Brown bag? Ice and water shield? Spray in Bed liner? All of the above?

I have got to find a solution to this. Just sat in a new Ford dually with the Scorpion motor...it sounds like grammas Buick. Soooo quiet. Love my diesel, but man my ears are burning.

I've NEVER heard anyone complain of drone with the stock muffler before.

I like my 40" Nelson, even while towing.

Thumbs up

Love my FTE resonator, I went with the 17" one for my 5"tbe, sounds great and NO MORE DRONE! I have most of my cab lined with RAAM mat also, and still had a little drone at that one speed(65mph) down the highway. My new 60 mile commute to work helped make up my mind and it sounds great. It didnt kill the sound of the 5" too much, but killed that bark and drone at any speed/rpm.

Untill now.

Would love to dump the CAT if I thought this would offset the noise I'd get from it. Might help tih EGT's too. No?

Anyone have Wally's email direct? I'm not a member over there.

Are you running any muffler on your setup?

Hard to believe the 51" Donaldson didn't cure it,are you sure some place isn't rubbing the body? Only takes a little touch to drive you nuts. Is it all the time or just undr extreme load ? 51" made me HAPPY

It would be the frame rail, not the body, but I'm sure it's not touching. It's only under heavy towing, and noticeable all the time, but especially so when I go up a hill or get on it slightly. If it kicks down a gear though, the RMPs change and then it instantly goes away. I really think it's resonance in the pipe personally, but if the FTE solves it, I don't really care.

Yes. The stock muffler droned some too. I read here how many were happy with the Donaldson and didn't have drone that I took a chance on one. It made the truck sound a better for sure, but didn't really help the drone. Arguably it made it worth at towing speeds under load. The back seat is like riding in a plane. You can't talk or hear yourself think.

I think extending the stock tip out further or putting a new longer tip on, adding the 30" resonator in front of the CAT, bed liner, and sound deadening the back of the cab is the safest choice, but I'd really like to dump the cat too. Just trying to decide on what all o do. I'll get this licked so it sounds like a yugo. Hahaha....

I'm just kidding btw...

At one time I was looking at adding the smaller FTE 4" resonator by getting a cat delete pipe and cutting in and welding the FTE to that. I know there is enough room on the pipe for that, and I would have the stock CAT and piping if I didn't like the sound. Just a suggestion. I have called and talked to Wally, the 30" was in the making back then, but I have heard good things about that also.

The sound deadener will help some but not get rid of it. I have two layers of RAAM mat in mine and a layer of the acoustical foam. It totally kills any road noise but I still get engine noise through the firewall and a droan at 75mph (~2000rpm, 3.73 gears, and 285-75 tires). If I do 70 or 80 its not there but there is roughly a 3-4 mph gap that I get a good deep droan from the exhaust.

That's def the exhaust resonance in the pipe then. You should try that tuned pipe idea. It's just a closed end pipe coming off at 90 degrees. No harm no foul there.

Nope, just the resonantor, youd really be surprised how much it kills the drone(without losing all the sound too)

Yep, and I went with the 17" version thinking it would just make it a little better, but there is zero drone, under WOT or cruising at what used to be that speed.

If you tow alot, id probably recommend the 30"er, but really you cant go wrong with either if you like 5" exhaust but hate the drone.
