Drag Racers
A question for those of you who are well versed in the 1/4 mile. You here a lot about "spooling the turbo" and i would like to know exactly what is meant by this, how you do it, and is it possible/beneficial with a stock setup? also manual vs automatic? I'm guessing you just floor both pedals and then let go of the brake once you're up on boost or the light goes green?

You are correct... to spool the turbo when stopped you need to put your foot on the break & the go peddle.
It is not recommended to do that with a stock transmission. It will not last very long under the added heat and torque.
Typically this is done in 4 wheel drive; I'm not sure how well that would work with 2wheel since you could easily get the back wheels spinning. Not a good thing when you need traction to get you going.
If you're 2wheel you will need to really get the weight transfer to the rear wheels if you're going to do any type of boost launches.
I'm sure others that have more experience chime in.

What he said about stock stuff.
With bigger turbos and bigger mods, you'll need to start spooling before you hit the first yellow light... crap gets squirly...

When doing a boost launch with 2WD it is important to keep the boost fairly low or the tires will just spin. You can put some stuff in the bed over or behind the rear axle to help weigh it down some.
