DPP 4" Exhaust
Anyone have the full 4" DPP exhaust on thier 03?
Wondering how you like it and if you found any fuel mileage gains (you know, more mpg)?
Thanks (I'm still on the wall over the exhaust upgrade vs straight pipe).

I do. I can't say that it had any affect at all on fuel mileage. I'm sure it dropped my EGT's, but I don't have gauges so I can't say for certain. If there were any performance gains it wasn't enough to be able to feel it.
One thing that I can say for certain is that it is louder than stock...and it has a bit of a different sound to it. In fact, when I first got mine I hated the way it sounded. I thought it had too much of a ricer sound to it. Over time, either it has gotten much better or I'm just used to it because now I like the way it sounds. You can tell just by listening to it that it flows more air than the stock system.
I had a problem with an exhaust leak at the connection between the downpipe and the turbo elbow on mine. I tried everything to fix it and could not. Mark Craig was kind enough to send me a replacement downpipe to fix the problem (which I haven't had a chance to put on yet). For what it's worth, I've never heard of anyone else having the same problem I had (have).
Getting the stock exhaust off was a bear, but the install of the MBRP system was pretty simple. I needed someone to help me by tightening the downpipe clamp from above while I held it in place from below, but aside from that it is a one man job. After I got the stock system off it probably took me one hour to put the new one on (I'm slow and I had to make a cut because I have a short bed truck).
In my opinion, it's a good system. Would I buy it again?? I don't know. When I later realized that I could have bought a Banks downpipe and a section of 4" straight pipe to go from the DP to the stock 4" tailpipe for about half the cost of an MBRP stainless system I kind of kicked myself.
Before you get it...just be warned that it's pretty loud. If it's not AS loud as a straight pipe then it has to be pretty close to it. It pretty much IS a straight pipe...just with a 34" or so section of it with little baffly things in it. If you're just wanting a little bit more sound than what you have then you'd probably be better off going another route.

So Hoss,
It seems by your pictures there is even enough of pipe there to sausage cut the tip if I wanted.
Not too concerned over the noise. I was going to straight pipe it. But If I am going to buy a muffler for 150 shipped or around my local parts...I might as well go for it and get the downpipe too.

Not sure what you mean by "sausage cut", but the tailpipe does stick out far enough that you could hack on it a bit if you wanted to. In fact, if you were going to put a nice 5" or 6" tip on there then you would probably WANT to cut some of the tailpipe off.

"sausage cut"
just a different (possibly cooler) way of saying
"angle cut"
like the factory exhaust.
Common term amoung the "coal region" truckers around here.

Sausage cut I have never heard that before either I will have to remember that.
I have installed that same exhaust plenty of times and the Mbrp they are both simple installs I have done either by myself many of times.

Get ready for tons of noise
Today was the first time I've been standing outside and someone else drove away in my truck (had it aligned). Wow is it beefy sounding outside of the truck. I also like how it sounds, but would lean towards probably not when the question is would I do it again..

Call it drone....call it being kind of loud at times in the cab....call it what you want, but yes. It's not all that bad though. It is definitely louder inside the cab than the stock system though. It's not so loud that you can't have a normal conversation with the person in your passenger seat though.
I've had the kit on my truck for two years now and I love the way it sounds. I've never had a problem with drone and have never thought that it was much louder in the cab when driving normally. When you lay down on the throttle, though, you will hear it. The kit was a simple install. I had my stock exhaust off and the new one on in about 45 minutes...and I even managed to keep my stock exhaust in tact. The Banks down pipe and elbow will make the exhuast a true 4" system, where the DPPI exhaust doesn't replace the elbow on the turbo. Some folks say that it part makes a difference, others say not. I have no clue, but I'm content with what I have.
Hoss, just curious. How did you discover that you had an exhasust leak at the turbo/downpipe coupling? Did you notice an exhaust smell or sound that gave it away?
