Something I use on my 97 is the TAG III. Turbo Air Guide.. Works well on my 97 even with the S300 turbo. It takes care of the more ear piercing air rush and whistle noise and replaces it with faint turbo whistle noise. Also I find the spool up in increased with it in and I get less low boost smoke.

Thanks for the responses guys..I know you have good intentions, however I was hoping folks would stick to the original question, so I didn't have to type out a bunch of unnecessary stuff...but here goes...for the last time, I'm not interested in changing my friggin intake, lol...and i'll finally explain why because folks won't drop it - I am going to put on the twins kit that's been sitting on the shelf for years this summer, and will be ditching the intake entirely anyway...what I was interested in, was some sort of wrap, material, or anything out there to QUIET A TURBO

Lildog, I have a TAG 3 installed...it definitely made a slight improvement.

Twins won't make it quieter :-)

You got so many mentions for the stocker becuase it's the quietest.. had you mentioned you couldn't use it, not didn't want to reinstall it, I think you would have gotten different answers..

Good luck, but there really isn't much unless you figure out how to get some baffles in there.

AH, I said many times that I did not want to go to the stock intake, nor did I want to change my intake..nobdy would drop it. Oh well..I know everyone just wanted to help, which is appreciated.

I know twins won't make it quieter...but perhaps the smile/noise ratio will have improved to the point I don't care Actually, I was hoping there was some sort of wrap for all of the piping. There was a product out a few years back that did just that, I I can't find it despite tons of googling...sigh.

I wonder if exhaust wrap would do anything? But I think most the sound come from the filter.

I'm just thinking there might be something out there that can help dampen/cancel the resonance a bit without negatively affecting temperatures/performance.

I dont have any experience/knowledge when it comes to exhaust wrap, couldn't say. I did see a lot of companies offer turbo wraps, they look shiny like mylar and they cover the turbo..The marketing says they make more power by regulating temps..but I've never heard of guys using these on diesels..

I still think insulating the engine compartment is your best bet. And I won't even talk about the intake

I have a turbo/manifold blanket on my truck, it does a great job of keeping the heat in the manifold.. but nothing for sound.. I was just thinking some exhaust wrap on the intake tube may help a little, but the more I think about it the more the sound comes from the filter.

When you go twins you could probably build a custom box that only pulls air from the OEM spot and the place the home depot CAI does, that will direct more of the turbo sound away from the cab and engine compartment. I know from my recent turbo swap that the turbo is the #1 culprit, my OEM turbo was very quiet without a silencer ring and baffles removed... but the Garrett isn't super quiet!

Rockcrawler - absolutely. I read that entire sound deadener showdown site, good info. I am halfway there already though.. I already have a hood liner installed, and the doors, rear wall, and rear floor are covered in dynamat..so a foam/vinyl layer would be all thats left, as well as the front floor...but I'm not sure how to get much more insulation closer to the engine bay..any thoughts there?

AH - the scotty pulls air from the stock location as well as ram air directly from the front..I'm guessing even with a setup you describe I will be dealing with a similar amount of sound escaping. Maybe a wrap or deadener of sorts could be good on that pipe..hard to say if the sound is exiting smoothly through it and out the filter, or bouncing around.

The sound would probably be similar, but there wouldn't be an opening in the engine bay, but under it.

The TAG-3 is held in the intake hose with an additional clamp and butts up against the inlet to the turbo.

Sorry it didn't help enough. The Older ScottyII sucks from the cowl so the in cab noise is about 3x that of an ordinary air system. It made more of a difference for me.
