dodge centers on H2 Wheels

from research here

I have to take off 1" on my dodge center caps, and grind down the reatiners some to get the caps to fit the H2 wheels

Why not tkae off less than an inche and not mess with the retainers

am I missing some thing here

new rubber looks cool, rides nice

52,000 on original michellins still about 5-8K left but not in the winter

Yes you are missing something - there's not enough clearance between your lugs and your new H2 wheel for the clips to fit. You have to grind off just enough to allow the clips to slip over the lugs without hitting the inside of the wheel hub. It will make perfect sense when you have a wheel mounted and try to install the dodge center cap.

Hey,

I posted the same question a couple days ago. I have a couple sets of H2 take offs. (If anyone wants a set let me know) ANYWAY. a genius (i would love to take credit for this but I am an honest guy) chimed in on mypost and said !!! "I put a second set of lug nuts on thus extending them out an additional inch instead of cutting an inch off!" confusia say always think outside the box danial-son. ANyway, I have gone to the local pepboys they want like $80 bucks for 32 lugs. (cheaper to buy a set of caps on ebay and cut em. The only other problem I see with this is I only see about two threads sticking out beyond my original lug nuts.

genros, I am looking for 2 more H2 takeoffs, some reason the rear ones on my truck didn't last too long. where are you in PA and any chance you might be going to the pa get together in pittston?

btw, the dodge center caps match up so perfectly in color and texture they look liike a factory match, really makes the truck look like it deserves the off road package stickers.

I think I was the second person to mount up a set of H2's some time ago. I still use my stockers for trips so I didn't want to cut down my caps. To make my stock caps work on the H2 wheels, I opened up the hubcap bore on the wheels in addition to center bore. If I remember right, the hubcap bore is opened up to 8.5in diameter to within .1 inch or so of the lug surface. This way my stock caps snap on just like on my stock wheels and don't stick out too far.

It was a pain to do this way as I did it on a cnc mill but had to setup twice since it didn't have the required stroke.

If I remember correctly I took off only .90 inches. the one I did at 1 inch has a little gap that I don't like. By the way I am looking for another set of factory center caps to go on my Black rims if anyone has some they'd like to part with reasonable...

Trimming the caps is no big deal. I used a cut off blade on my angle grinder. Wrapped a piece of electrical tape (about 3/4") around the outside edge of the cap as the guide. The cut was rough, but you can't tell once they're installed. Took about 20 minutes. Only had to use one tool for cutting and grinding

Well, I'm selling my beautiful chrome H2s w/ tires this weekend to a member here. I got a set of polished alloys with Michelin 265s on them and that's what I'm gonna run from now on. Perfect timing too since we are supposed to get our third snow tomorrow!!
I just never go offroad and I may drive in the snow but as of late I just get to and from work in it so I just don't need them. I won't be a member of the H2 club anymore...
