DIY Dual Steering Dampers

I still need to get some new dampers, but here is the bracket I made to use 2 oem style dampers. Works great so far.

Isn't that going to cause your steering to pull to one side???

That's sharp if it works great! Great job on the mount, but you should shine up the shocks a little to match.

I have never seen a dual shock setup like that, usuall they want the spread the dampening out across both sides:

It doesn't pull to any one side, still drives true and straight. I've seen single sided dual setups from Fabtech and Rancho, but they could be for different applications than a Dodge. The two dampers haven't rubbed together yet. Since they cannot move independently, there is close to the same gap from lock to lock.

Steering dampeners should not be gas charged and have equal valving in both directions so there should be no pull.

Very nice work on the dual mount--very compact. BTW, were you in a situation where you felt you needed the additional dampening with bigger tires, etc?

Yes, after I switched to bigger tires, I could feel small movement in the steering wheel over ripples and bumps in the road that wasn't there before. With the two dampers, the movement is gone.

Ditto on that one. I am getting ready to add some 35's on my truck and I could use the extra dampening. I have a guy locally that can fab just about anything if you are willing to share the design. PM me if you don't mind sharing...

Looks good. I made one similar to that for my Wrangler. I didn't use thick enough plate and it finally started to bend. Can't tell how thick you used but I would use at least 1/4" maybe 5/16" next time and use two U-bolts to clamp it. Still haven't got around to making another,

Not entirely accurate. Mine is nitrogen charged at about 120 psi and doesn't pull.

True. What I should have said was "positively charged" to push in either direction. Nice catch.

Fab up an extra one if you can and I'll throw some green stamps your way.

Defiant dually.

Paul Fox @ Defiant has a new lower cost dual shocked w/diff. guard stabilzer for sale now. Realistically,I can't imagine my needing more. The big thing to me is to raise the shocks up to the level if the axle tube. Diff guard is a plus too. My friend bought a Heckathorn replacement stabilizer recently which has a much bigger body, but same shaft. The problem is though is that it's weaker dampening than the Dodge unit. Everybody's got their preferences, that's the beauty of these forums in that they've exposed me to many opinions.
