diff in degrees from manifold to after turbo question?
diff in degrees from manifold to after turbo question?
when i ran my truck with the tst on 5/5 manifold temps hit 1500 and after turbo is 1150ish, i have both guages, is this normal spread, when im cruising its only a 150 degree difference approx, not a 500 degree diff, granted this is ripping at 90mph under load, are these numbers normal and what is a honestly safe manifold egt number ?
after turbo temps will vary about 100 degrees per 10 pounds of boost. Thats the heat energy the turbo is using to make boost. So at 40 psi of boost you will see about a 400 degree difference. Hope this helps.
thanks doug60 was wondering why the large diff when loaded, is 1500 at manifold too much, cause my after turdo was only at 1150, but my manifold was at 1500, ive pushed and pulled with my previous predator at 1200 and had no issues.
If yo are running 1500 degrees you are going to melt somthing real quick. The CTD acan run at 1300 degrees all day. Somthing has to give it's just a matter of time.
As far as temps PRE & Post. during normal operations cruzing mine run about 200-300 degrees apart, when under load the pre has gotten to 1250 and post around 800. I have my Cool Engine Shutdown set for 300 degrees Post Turbo, which coincides with the Pre-Turbo temp. That way I know it's nice and cool.

What engine and mods do you have??? I dont see any signature.
My 325/600 with air intake, Predator Stage II and stock exhaust would hit 1450 pre-turbo and stay there for most of 1/4 mile. I assume that it would get at least there with a load and maybe more. With Banks Monster Exhaust seems to have backed off a little to 1400 at WOT.

OK, so why can i get 1200 degrees from a stock truck with exhaust and intake done if you guys say that 1150 is danger, this theory makes no sense. so obviously pre turbo is going to be in the 1500 degree area with 12oo degree aft turbe temps right?
On a third gen truck, especially a 600 or later, I wouldn't sweat high EGT all that much. These things run hot and are made to run hot. I'd say 1300° all day is fine.
As for post vs pre temps, there can easily be as much as 500° difference. That's what it was on my truck under the most extreme cases..
That's why I recommend a PRE-turbo installation, as there really isn't a "rule of thumb" that is accurate at all. Even the 100°-per 10psi is bunk because you can't compare steady-state to accelerating.
If you're towing at 20psi, you might have a 200 degree difference (probably more). But if you're running WOT, you'll have a LOT more than 200° difference as the needle blows past 20psi.
You guys with duel pyros will confirm this-- steady state and accelerating are entirely different animals.
