Question Diablo Trinity

So I have a Diablo Trinity that was installed on my 08 Daytona. My questions are when I load a *canned* tune should I feel the difference right away? Some gains are quoted as

"Towing: This setting is generally a of 40-60 HP and an average of 100 Ft/Lbs of torque (depending on application) and is for use when towing heavy loads near the applications factory towing capacity. This setting is designed to increase drivability while towing, net extra economy when cruising at highway speeds, and is helpful when driving through mountains while towing.

Economy:adds between 60-100 HP and 180-200 Ft/Lbs of Torque, economy gains average in the 2-3 MPG range(Highway)! This setting is not designed for heavy towing- limits are in the range of 6,000-8,000 pounds depending on your vehicle’s stock towing capacity. DiabloSport highly recommends the use of an aftermarket cold air intake and exhaust (4 inch diameter at the down pipe).

Extreme: This tune adds anywhere from 100- 185 horsepower and 220+ Ft/Lbs of torque and is specifically for peeling out down the strip! DiabloSport recommends only using the extreme tuning options if you have an exhaust and cold air intake due to a possible increase in EGT."

There are a few more tunes that can be installed but need tranny mods, and a power puck from DS (diablo sport) to work.

So my questions are should I be concerned for my tranny, rear end, axles etc? with say the *Economy tune*? I am new to cummins motors and Dodge trucks. I am not sure what these stock tranny's etc can handle.

Any tips etc will be greatly appreciated!

The stock tranny, assuming it is in good condition, for your year of truck can handle about 100 hp more power before hurting it. This is also assuming you are not going to abuse it with the 100 hp. You will not need to worry about the rear end or u joints with that power. Again, assuming they are in good condition already.

I doubt you'll get 3 mpg extra....

Now the question I have is:

The trinity you mention was on your Charger and now you want to put the same device on the diesel?

I don't think that will work that way unless you got rid of the Charger tune and are using a diesel tune and the Trinity allows that. I don't know enough about the Trinity to say. It is not a common tuner you will see on the Cummins so the experience is somewhat limited.

Well I just do normal driving around town.. maybe throw in a few items here and there hauling wise.. Lawnmower things like that... Trinity can work on a number of years, makes and models. But like any tuner it needs to be VIN verified, so I would just need to de tune the charger and choose the year, model etc for the truck. That is a beauty of this tuner, it can work across multiple platforms. Also, should or would I feel the power difference when said tune was installed? Or should I need to drive the truck so ECM/ECU can *learn* the tune installed?

Thanks for the reply

The tune goes in and it's there the next time you drive it - ready to go. I like the Pred 100 hp and it's great for towing with my mods - 1225 max egt. I've been running the Stack Extreme tune, without the Puck turned on, for a long time and it's getting better mpg - up to 2. I like it cuz the engine sounds very happy - no bad timing or pressure noises. Ironically, the 100/econ hardly made a difference in mpg. Don't fret not having the Puck - it does very little more. Stack Extreme is a lot of power but smoky if I'm not careful. Then, with the Puck, it's considerably more power but some of the custom DLs are just as good. Can you use the power supply and 9 pin cord with your trinity? I not only use it for DLing tunes but I also had to DL updates for the canned tunes, when it started acting up, last year. Everything was fine after the updates. Craig

Ok that makes sense on the next time I drive it. I did the Econ one and wow did it smoke when I gave it some pedal. It had quite a bit of knock also. So I decided to back down to the Tow tune.. Didn't have a chance to drive that one yet. On the highway Econ tune at 65mph would feel like I was pressing the brakes real hard so it could keep the 65mph speed. Kinda odd maybe or is that normal? I updated my Trin a while back, I think there might be another update out... My truck has some miles so maybe some maintenance is in order. The trin just uses a USB cable instead of the older style stuff on the Pred.

So just wanted to leave a quick update. Got to put about a 100 miles on the Tow tune and Econ tune. Wow Econ tune woke my truck up big time! I think i need to beef the tranny up some. Tow is a mild power add that is calm enough to enjoy adding some pedal and not watching the fuel gauge move as you press the pedal. Have not tried the extreme yet as i don't want to break anything.

The 03 and 05 both use the U7130 Predator so I thought the econ/100 tunes would be the same, Pred or Trinity... apparently not. Econ is very clean on my 03 and it does a little defueling below ~1500, making it an extra strong tow tune and mpg picks up maybe .5 if I don't abuse it. Too bad it's so dirty on your 05. Craig
