Delete Pipe info

Just to inform all of you interested in a delete pipe for your factory 4" system. I bought one of these for my '06. I finally convinced myself to cut the almost new muffler off my $40+ truck and install it. During the install, I found that it was a bit short. I thought maybe I made a mistake somewhere so I tried again. Sure enough, only 1-1 1/2" of overlap on both sides when it was twisted to the best possible configuration. This moved my tail pipe a bit further away from the body but I will have to live with it I guess (my muffler is now ruined). So, I called RPM to inquire about it thinking I had a defective unit. They did not have an answer and graciously gave me the # for the manufacturer. I called them and received a big ?? from the guy I talked to but he promised to get me an answer. He did, I found a message on my machine a few days later telling me that this pipe is designed as a weld in replacement. The attitude that came over the phone was one of "duh, you idiot". I called RPM today to let them know the answer I received and that their website leads one to believe it is a clamp in part.
If you do not want to weld a pipe into a system that was designed for an easily changeable clamp in muffler/pipe, I would recommend that you do NOT buy this pipe. It does not have near enough overlap to feel comfortable with its staying put on a bumpy highway much less anywhere off-road.
Not to mention the manufacturer is represented by freakin jerk.

I did see that one but (not knowing there was an issue) I decided that the hangar was no issue for me and I wanted to save a few bucks.

Well, that's usually the route I take, but for some reason I ordered the one from Geno's. Glad I did now. Well, except I don't really like the sound..........I'm gonna start a new thread about that, though.............

I just took my truck down to a muffler shop to have them cut the muffler out, and install new 4" pipe to repalce the muffler section. $100 bill total, and I walked down to the corner and had some great mexican food and a few corona's while they performed all of the work.

did you use a saw to cut off the old muffler and just slap the delete pipe in?

Does the clamps come with the pipe from Genos?

the muffler is kind of a pain to get off because the muffler is crimped on from the factory clamp. The easiest way to remove it is to take a cut-off wheel on a grinder and put a couple slices in the muffler so it can be pried away from the pipe. Even with the cat still in the exhaust is quite a bit louder without the muffler.

I ran this setup on my 05 for a little bit. it will be louder with no muffler, but not as loud as a the full straight pipe. there are 2 screens in the kitty that stop alot of the sound I think. but you will get some drone in the cab with no kitty or muffler. when the cat fell off my trk(sawzall) it was alot louder I thought. I took it out and drove it down the road and I was pleased. at the time it was very loud compared to what it was.

yeah like it says below ..from the factory the clamps crimp the muffler to the tail pipe section and the cat section .. so yes i did use a sawzall to get the muffler off.. so the muffler is toast !! Geno's gives you one clamp that has a hanger on it .. i used it on the tail pipe section of the delete pipe .. luckily the front one was fine and i re-used it ... make sure if you install a delete pipe that you re tighten everything after you go out on that initial test drive .. mine came loose about 30 mins into the first test drive ..

Good luck

No, CAT was/is not removed. You can really notice the sound increase. I think it would be too much if the cat were removed also. I use my truck for towing and it is quite loud under load now. Makes my Ford buddies jealous when I pull in though!
