crossover box for stacks

Im trying to do 6" stacks, on a budget. Instead of using a T-pipe, Im thining about doing a crossover box.

My friend builds aluminum boats. He says toss him $20 and pay for the materials, and we'll build an aluminum one. Seems pretty straight forward.

So, a piece of 3x6x60 tubing, ...with some 5" OD round tube about 8" long? coming out the top, ...and a couple of "L" shaped brackets to bolt it down.

Then Ill just get an elbow, some 4" flex, and some clamps, from the big truck supply place.

Any ideas how thick the rectangle tubing should be? And, where can I find about 16" of 5" round tube?

Fleet Pride or any big truck supply should be able to help with the 5" stuff as well as the clamps, "Y", flex, etc.

Yeah, thats where Im going for that stuff. We have one, local.

What about the thickness of the material, and a source for the tubing?

I cant remember the thickness of the tubing but my buddy has a 98.5 with the 5 in box tubing to 5in. stacks. But i dont think his sound right in my opinion amybe its the way the tubing sounds. But you are right it is cost effective

Thanks for the link.

Your right, ...the sound has to be way different compared to a t-pipe. I think it will sound good either way. Im about to purchase som 6" aussies from a member here, so Im going to try to get the box built right away.

I just ordered 12" of 4" tube, to go into the bottom of the box. Itll be connected to a 4" piece of flex, to the factory exhaust.

I also ordered 24" of 5" tube, to come out the top of the box,...12" on either end. It should work out pretty good.

Im getting ready to build the box,.... and someone suggested that it might crack, in the winter, being made out of aluminum. Any thoughts?

As long as the walls are pretty thick it shouldnt crack because of winter weather...
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=151451

Heres the box crossover setup I built for my truck, 3x6 box tubing(steel)
60" long, 5" holes on either side 1/2" from the edge, and the inlet hole on the bottom is one rib off center in the bed(either 30 or 32" from the drivers side if I remember correctly)
The box had an 6" piece of pipe on the bottom(with 5" ID flange), and two 10" extensions up from the box, again with 5" ID pipe flanged ends to accept box the stacks and elbow under the bed.
The overall height of mine are 41", right at cab height.
