Cracking Injectors....

So i have gone thru about 4 injectors... what can i do (since i have them out) to keep from cracking any more.. at over $300 a piece they are awful pricey.. i have a edge juice and they guys at the injector shop keeps telling me the raise in the CR pressure is what is cracking them.. i cant afford the $3000 for a new set right now.. (babys are expensive) so have them rebuilt? maybe send and have them honed? will that keep them from cracking? or just selling the edge box... https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...mashfreakB.gif

well there may be other isues why they are craking, does the juice have a rail gauge,if so what are u running,i dont knw much about the juice but i cant see it running rail pres high enough to damage anyhting, sometimes its fuel that can crak them, does the juice allow u to run tunes with no pres added, maybe sell the juice and try a pred diablo, they have tunes with no pres added so u can stack with other stuff,

the juice dosent have a rail gauge.. i was thinking about buying one. but it would have been to make sure rail press. didnt get too LOW not too high.. i like the box. hate to get rid of it. but i was thinking maybe if the nozzle holes were bigger there would be less press. in the nozzle itsself..

Bosch specs 2mic for their common rail systems!!! Not too sure why we can only get a 5mic for the canister, but if you order a 2mic set-up from Glacier or make your own...I'd be willing to bet that you wont blow any more injectors!!

Filtration is KEY!!!

im going to have to check that out. i still cant figure out why they would crack tho. that is crazy. i mean i know there is some silly high pressure but one would think it would have been designed for that...

The edge is timing and duration and no pressure. unless you have the edge easy which is a pressure box.

The Edge Juice for the 03 and 04 trucks raises rail pressure, unlike the Juice for the 04.5 and up trucks that does not raise rail pressure. The fix would be to upgrade your injector tips to a set of F1 Diesel's Flux 1 tips. They use aftermarket tips that will easily withstand the pressure from the Juice. If you go with an ordinary honed tip, you will still have a stock tip that will be more susceptible to cracking. I think the F1 tips will set you back about $1,100.

I think you have another issue.

I think I remember F1 diesel saying the 03-04 are less prone to cracking then then the 04.5?

Possibly something in the fuel system or getting poor fuel from the same station?

03/04 tips are less prone to cracking because our stock pressures are much lower. Cracked tips on 04.5-up tips are more common because they run higher average pressures. 03/04 tips are of a weaker material (because we run lower pressure) that will fail before a 04.5-up tip when subjected to the same pressures.

I guess you really need to know whether they are cracking or being eroded away. That makes a huge difference. Your dealer, or whoever is replacing them may just be using improper terminology. Poor filtration will erode the seats causing them to leak terribly. Initial symptoms would be hard starts, intense white smoke, and light fuel in the oil. All get worse as time goes by. Cracked tips are a different ball game. Symptoms are very sudden (nothing progressive). Usually fine one second then....boom. If it happens on a long trip the crankcase fills with fuel rather quickly. Lots of white smoke. Generally the engine will not start once turned off. It is possible to erode away enough seat that it weakens the tip and causes the crack. You have serious symptoms from the leaking long before it gets to that point.

The only other thing it could be is a bad rail pressure sensor, which would raise pressure. Usually when a sensor goes bad it maxes rail pressure (it can't go bad just a little....it goes all the way), which promptly pops the relief valve. Once the valve pops, the truck ceases to run correctly. That would have been found rather quickly by a dealer tech.

I still vote for the Juice, unless the tech replacing them uses "cracked" in the same light as "broke", which doesn't tell you anything. He needs to be very specific for you to pinpoint the problem.

got the injectors tested and they said there was high return on 4 out of the 6 injectors. causing a excessive return. and the line not being able to handle soo much flow... backed it up and spit it out the nozzle.. causing oil dilution, hard starts, RPM spikes when i press in the clutch, and tons of smoke on start up. said its like trying to put a 4 inch water main in a garden hose when almost all 6 injectors are returning soo much fuel... haha so.... got new injectors on order.. and also bought some edge jammer nozzles while they are crazy cheep... ($225 for the set on ebay brand new)

WOW! Did you recieve them yet? If so, were they easy to install? Did you notice the extra power? Sorry for all the questions.
