cracked injector upgrade

I have been hearing a ticking/pinging ever since I put my diablo on the truck, but thought it might be a cp3 prob. But now I am thinking that it might be an injector.

I think that I might be starting to make some oil. I also smell diesel after I shut the truck off.

My question is, what injectors can I replace them with that will be stronger and give me some hp in the process. I want full injectors, not just tips. It seams like everywhere I look all I see are the tips/nozzles.

Tranny will be replaced with an built one this coming spring so I am not to worried about that...

I thought all injector bodies were the same? Don M will rebuild them for you. The stock ones cost a fortune new, I hear.

Do you have a pressure box as well or only the Diablo programmer?

DDP up in Washington will change the heads out or if in good conditions. He can hone them to 50hp, 80hp, etc. TDR magazine did a article w/ DDP. They put 50 Hp honed injectors in and it gave better mpg, little to no smoke w/ the programmer thay had on and also gave a little more ponies. I believe it cost w/ labor $1,300 out the door.

F1 will also repair damaged injectors. And they have the only injector tips I know of that are tested to a super high pressure of 39K and have not failed.

If I do end up having a cracked injector, how quick will I be making oil?

Is it something that is will be able to see on a 10-15 mile run, or will it take a couple of hundred miles to see a rise in the oil?

Another question is, when the truck has been running and I shut it off, I can smell diesel fuel when I walk by the engine bay. Is that normal? Could it be from where I spilled some a week or two ago when I changed the fuel filter?

Thanks Guys

It could be the CP3, they have been known to leak.

All you hear is people saying that F1 has better and stronger tips that don't crack, but they are on stock injector bodies. I don't think injector bodies will hold up to high pressures forever either. BTW I'm pretty sure it is a cracked body that is the cause of diesel in the oil.

Have you guys pulled your injectors? If you have you will see how thick the body is, most injector problems are due the internals not closing fully or sticking completley open. Also stock tips do crack. If your injectors are leaking it is ussually not a slow process, in 10 miles you will be full of diesel and blowing it on the vehicle behind you. I would be very impressed to see someone crack an injector body, not saying it is impossible just saying its not likely.

Don says that the Bosch injector bodies are virtually bulletproof... they just don't flow as much as he'd like!

i dont know about the diesel smell but with the pressure from the predator might be making the noise. i have a pressure box and mine ticks and i thought my injectors were going out but i have been in another truck with a pressure box and it made the same noise. take the predator and see if it makes the same noise. for the diesel look around and you shoud be able to see if its leaking some where. smell the oil.
