Couple 04 exhaust ?s

My exhaust finally rusted off. So I'm buying a new one soon. I was running straight pipe and plan on staying with it. I was thinking a new turbo back system and going 4" all the way. I remember reading that I can put a different elbow and get true 4" from the turbo. Is it worth doing that or should I just get a system that bolts right up to my turbo? If so where is a good cheap place to get one?

Any thoughts on exhaust systems. I am all ears. Leaning towards a diamond eye right now. Seems to be about the cheapest.

Thanks
Kris

If you're looking for cheap, I'd at least try to get the downpipe in stainless. The aluminum doesn't last very long with the heat.

It's definitely worth it to get one of those elbows & a 4" downpipe. Your stock DP will not connect to the larger elbow. I saw a 100 degree drop in EGTs on my 03 truck I had. I put one on my current truck but don't have an EGT guage yet to see if I got the same results. I ran 4" pipe into a stock muffler from a 6.7 truck. It's straight thru and only 12" long. Sounds like SP but only 2/3rds as loud. I think it sounds great......

How about going with a 5"? Been tossing the idea around of going with the bigger exhaust. I've been told that it would be a deeper tone than the exhaust I had.

Thanks

I would still get your hands on a 4" elbow and then just get a 5" system made for an 04.5 - 07 5.9 truck...
Kind of nuts to spend the $$$ on a big exhaust and still use that restrictive elbow...

Two days ago I saw one for sale at another site. I just checked but it appears to be gone now.
I got mine on E-Bay. Do yourself a favor though. Make sure you find one with the V-Clamp that holds the downpipe onto it. I got mine without that clamp and then had to shell out another $40 for the clamp from Cummins....
Maybe a member here will read this post and offer one up.....

I appreciate that. How much should I expect to pay for one?

04.5 to 07 325/600 series 5.9 elbows are all the same. I think I paid like $40.00 or $50 for mine. That's what they usually sell for. As I said before though, try to find one with the downpipe clamp or you will have to buy that separate...

It's usually guys that have installed twins that are selling the elbows...

I don't know how important it is to change the elbow but you can buy 4" DPs to fit the 3.5" elbow. I guess Dodge or Cummins thought a 4" elbow was necessary, tho. I went ahead and built 4" straight from my turbo. Craig

I found you an elbow w/ clamps for $80 shipped if you want them Glowball...

Using the factory elbow is OK but you will not get the full potential of your 4" or 5" system if your exhaust has to pass through that small elbow first.
