I'm considering installing the PSM air kit. I would like to know how this functions in cold weather climates where we use radiator covers. Should this snorkel be closed during winter driving conditions, where temps are often below 0 F? Not sure how this affects mileage w/ cold outside air. Also, what are your opinions on the PSM intake plenum vs. stock?

 

Anybody using this intake setup? Like to hear some opinions.

 

I had the PSM mod on my 2006 for 2 winters. No problems. I am at 7K ft altitude in an area that has snow for a couple months, thought about if the snow would find it's way to my intake box, no problems. I canot tell you anything regarding fuel mileage and the cold air due to a little idle time at startup due to the cold temps and wanting the truck to warm up some before taking off. That eats at your fuel mileage some, but my winter mileage is really no different than my summer mileage for the most part. Slightly a little less mpg's, but not enough to sweat it.

When I installed the Ice Box CAI, and since the Ice Box takes in some ambient temp from the engine compartment, I thought that the PSM might offset those temps by pulling some air in the same manner it did when it was on my stock intake box. I plan to install it this coming weekend just to see what effect it might have in the overall.

I have the PSM setup and up here in Alberta we can get lots of snow at times. I've never had any snow make it up into the filter box. And we can also see temps colder than -40* and I've had no issues with the added cold air.

I have a hole in the bottom of my airbox with a pipe on it and have sucked snow in the filter but the snow was drifting with high winds. No problem with cold temps. You have to work these trucks to make heat regardless.
