Cleaning AFE filter...same as K&N?
So - this weekend I'm going to do the fluids in the new truck and will clean the AFE intake as well. This is similar to a K&N right? Just use a cleaner and recharge oil on it? Does it have to be specific for AFE? Same, same, right?
If it is the ProGuard 7 it is a thicker media and does require a little more work washing it. Some have said that they soak theirs in a bucket for a few hours. I just washed mine several times until I was satisfied that it was as clean as I could get it. I let mine dry over night to make sure it was good and dry before I re-oiled it. You can use any of the filter oil they are simular just different colors.
I've always just used dish soap and gently turn & pull in & out of buck of water ,soap , deep enough to go completely under . same slow movements so as not to move the gause around then drip dry.

I'll check out that simple green stuff. For the price of those small bottles of cleaners I figured people were using something different.
Washed the truck over lunch - looks good but there's a TON of rock chips on it. Wishing I had a white truck right about now...

I use NoToil foam filter oil on my bikes air filter and now on my Scotty III. This stuff is amazingly sticky and traps dirt like no other oil I have used through out the years. I don’t know if it will work on a gauss filter, if it does, that’s what I would go with.
