Sorry I am such a wisea.s.s. TST adds a ton of power but you need some supporting mods like turbo, fuel and trans to really get the most out of it. The smarty is polly the best bang for your buck, on the 03-04 it adds 130 or something like that and on the 04.5+ it adds 170! Pretty impressive. Do you know if you are looking at an 04 vs. 04.5? 04 = build prior to 1/04, I think and it is either 235 or 305 hp, it says on the valve cover
04.5 = build after 1/04 and it is the 325/600 motors.
Smoke'Em, sorry to hijack...but i have to ask, if smarty gives 170 more hp on the 04.5+ which is very impressive i must say, but can a stock auto tranny handle that? whats the limit the stock auto tranny can hold without issues?
A stock trans can only handle as much as the right foot of the driver. That being said most people say the rule of thumb with a good stock trans is about 70-100rwhp over stock. Even with my lowly juice/ramifier stack I am pushing my stock trans pretty hard on the upper levels of my juice. If the trans is lower mileage I have a valve body and torque converter will help out the cause. My trans is a bit too old for that at 129k miles so I am saving up for a new one with a billet input shaft and such...
