check/safety valves to control boost

I saw the PDI truck and a couple others with check valves tapped into the intake tubes b/w the intercooler and turbo and intercooler and motor. Im gonna be moving to either a SPS66 or Aurora 5000 and am for now just gonna install head studs. id like to keep my boost pressure around the 55psi range and was gonna install check/safety valves to help release my boost pressure so i dont try to mix oil and water unintentionally.does anyone know where or what kind of valves theyre using? thanx in advance

they are called blow off valves. they are used to relieve the remaining pressure when you are at high boost and come off the throttle. BD makes them, very expensive. but they dont control the boost level.
wastegates control boost pressure and are part of the turbo and are adjustable.

I know what a BOV is and im not talking about that!! what im trying to control and yes i know a wastegate will control my boost but id also like to have a set of check valves on the tube going to the intercooler to limits my boost to 55 psi so i dont have to run a small waste gate if you catch what im saying. im planning on moving to higher levels of boost later and would like to keep the wastegate thats set for 60psi or more thats on a big single yet still be able to limit boost to 55psi for the time being.

I run two check valves on my intake tube. They are there really to limit surges in boost, and as a safety device in case something happens like a wastegate sticking. I would not recommend actually using them to adjust the boost. Wastegates not only control boost, but also turbo rpm. If you don't change the amount of drive pressure the turbo has against it, but relieve the amount of resistance it is pushing against, the turbo rpm goes up. Every blow an intercooler boot off? Turbo rpm goes way up! My suggestion would be to just adjust the wastegate down or put in an adjustable boost elbow, until you are ready for the full boost.

To directly answer your question, you can find the valves many places. Any diesel performance shop that deals with turbo kits (such as Source Automotive), will be able to sell them to you. You can also find them at mcmaster-carr.

Hope this helps...
Paul
