CEL and 2 codes

I installed the standard Xzillaraider and gauges on my truck 2 weeks ago and it all was fine, very happy with the box. Two days after I installed it I was on the freeway in the 100 setting doing around 75 and and nailed it WOT, truck took off with all kinds of power. After letting off the throttle I got a CEL with a P0148 code. Truck was still running fine but I turned the box to stock anyway. I installed the loopback plug to run true stock for awhile. After so many starts CEL went out and everything was fine except the code still being there. I spoke to Quad and he hadn't heard of any others having that problem so I decided to drive it to see if I could duplicate the problem in another setting, 60 this time. Same scenario, CEL comes on again. Truck still runs fine, CEL goes out after X amount of starts. One more try in the 30 this time all is fine no CEL. I switch it to the 60 setting and cruise the rest of the way to work. Then at 70 MPH I noticed the truck surging a little, not too bad but it was noticable. I turned the box to stock to see if that was the problem and the CEL came on. I arrived at my destination about 2 miles later and checked for codes. I had the P0148 and a P0088 this time. Talk to Quad again and for my own piece of mind they send me a whole new set up. I went to the dealer and they cleared the codes so I can start with a clean slate. Installed the new equipment and went back to the freeway. This time I take it easy all the way to work in the 60 setting at about 75 MPH. Slowed to 70 and the surging starts again!! This time I left the box on and no CEL. Today I removed everthing again(box and harness) and took it to the dealer, told him that it was surging at 70 occasionally and they check it out. The tech test drove it for 10 miles with the computer hooked up and of course they can't duplicate the problem and all systems show good.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be or a direction I could steer the dealer in? I know what the codes are(P0148 Fuel Delivery Error, P0088 High Rail Pressure Sensor) Could I be starving for fuel with the box on? I do not have a fuel pressure gauge yet but I guess I may have to get one to determine if I'm starving for fuel. Possibly not enough air? Lift pump? Injector bad? Any ideas??? HELP!!!!!

I am still at a loss. I doubt you are starving it for fuel at cruise. The surge is obviously caused by fueling, but I am not sure why?
You should not ever get a CEL in any setting, but the fact that you can get it to act up in the 60hp setting is extremely strange. I have one thing I would like to try just to see if it fixes the problem.
I am almost convinced that the CP3 is trying to pull fuel back for some odd reason. When this happens it sets the 0088 because it thinks that the FP is too high for that particular TP and RPM. It tries to compensate and we won't let it so it sets the 0148. The question is why is it doing this?? I am going to send you a box just to try and play a trick on it so if this ever comes up we have a fix. There are thousands of 600's running without ever surging so this almost makes it a challenge!
I will try and get you something in the next day or two and you can tell us if that fixes it.

What about one or more flawed injectors sticking?
Its not uncommon for many of these trucks to have at least one pooched injector that appears to run fine until its asked to do more or under a load.
Just an idea.

Thanks Quad!! You guys are more than helpful. I only post this so as to see if maybe someone else has noticed the same thing or with any other boxes. I'll try whatever you want as long as it's not gonna blow up on me
. PM me if you need my info... I love the power and I want to make this work.....

I would call it a sticking injector last. Usually, not always, a sticking injector will cause the engine to rattle and or make some white smoke. I would like to blame it on the injectors, but I seriously doubt that is at the heart of the problem. I think that given a large enough base of trucks you will find some that just don't agree with the added electronics. It is my job to determine the cause and provide a solution. I am sure at some point there will be another truck somehwere with similar problems. I am shocked that we have not had any more issues than what we have dealt with so far. We have thousands running and I can count the problem trucks on one hand.
I am not worried, and I bet I find a solution without comprimising any power!

P0148 Code set with zilla race 100hp on cruise
I have been running with the zilla race for about 1500 miles now. I had no codes until I was on the interstate for the first time with it. I was running the 100 hp setting and traveling between 65-68 miles per hour with cruise on and when I started up a hill the engine light came on. I set the box back to 60 hp continued on my trip with no other problems other than the light being on. The light eventually went out. I filled up when I returned home from the trip and I again set the box back up to 100hp and have been running it that way to see if the light will come on again. I do not go on the interstate hardly at all. The P0148 code is the only code that I set. I am going to change the fuel filter and take ride on the interstate to see if the code still gets set. Any suggestions Zilla?

Yes, the 0148 is a fuel delivery error. We have had a few of these and have been working on it. It is a 600 thing. What we believe is happening is that the ECM is commnading X timing and X duration and I believe that it sees a fluctuation in lift pump pressure to the CP3 and it thinks it is dropping too much at cruise because of hte duration.
We have a new flash that we are testing on a couple of trucks so I will let you know if that fixes it. It is most likely not the fuel filter. We can't get it to set here in TX. I think it must have to do with rolling over a good size hill or something when the duration gets stretched a little? I have 4 or 5 guys that have had it happen in 140, but only 1 or 2 others in the 100hp. I think we have it fixed, but I want to know for sure.
The 0148 will illumintate a CEL, but will not affect the performance of the truck.
I will keep you updated over the next day or two.

Thanks qzilla!!!!!
Thanks a lot for the response. I do software customer support for a living and having real time communication really makes a customer happy and gets a resolution to the problem much quicker. Thanks again.
The ECM sees a lift pump pressure fluctuation?
Do you mean the rail pressure is fluctuating because the lift pump pressure is fluctuating.
I don't think the ECM can tell what the lift pump pressure is. It can tell the duty cycle of the CP3 control valve (called an MPROP), the current supplied to the MPROP, and the rail pressure.
I bet their MPROP's are going.
I want to clarify that I'm not saying you're wrong. Its your box, you know better than anyone what it does/doesn't do. I just want to learn, so please don't take this the wrong way.

Basically there is another sensor that you are referring to on the CP3. This sensor measures the difference in rail pressure and CP3 commanded pressure. Basically if the lift pump pressure drops this sensor sees a fluctuation.
I guess I should have stated it differently. I should have stated that the lift pump pressure fluctuating can cause the sensor to think it has a problem. That is more general, but what is likely the case.
I think you are reffering to the regulators and it does seem that DC has had a few problems with them even on stock trucks. I just prefer to blame myself first and then worry about the truck parts later. I need to make it where our stuff works within the factory tolerances. If we find a group of trucks that seem to have an issue thats when we fix them.
I just wished I could get some of these trucks when I beta test. We tested hundreds of trucks without ever getting a code?? Go figure?
I guess the percentage of CEL or issues is next to nothing as it is, but I wished I could make everything flawless. I am working on it.
I am going to talk to Larry about making a sticky that has a username with the issue that they had as well as the solution when one arrives. This will serve as a good reference to other customers on the board. It will also list the flash that fixes the issue if there is one.

I often see posts that are about the same basic problem, but worded a little differently, so that a person may not make the connection with a basic search.
For example one person might describe a "surging" with their truck, and another may describe it as a "miss" or a "stumble". All of them may be describing the same thing, but the search engine will only look for what you ask of it.
I will be happy to help in any way that I can.
I think I am going to compile some FAQ's that I get asked over and over.
I think we get some of the surging questions because we are simply doing things that no one else is doing. Once I explain what is going on it is found that we don't have a surging problem it is just the module adusting to the conditions.
Other than that the few CEL we have gotten we should make a matrix of them to keep track.
